Today we headed out on our trip to Dixie Land. While creating this post I realized it was exactly a year ago we were on the road driving home from our trip to the West. We were overdue to get away.
I was not going to blog, but then I realized, if I don't I will not have an accurate account of the trip for my future scrapbook. So here I am. If you are reading this please excuse any grammatical errors, spelling or anything else you can think to criticize. Most of the time I am writing this is late at night, so I am tired and I do not take time to edit. It will not be until after the trip that I may take time to clean it up. Like I said, the main purpose is so I have an accurate account for later. If you enjoy reading about what we are up to, we are glad to share it. If you love to travel and would like more information about the places we visit, I am happy to provide more details. You can leave me a note.
We left later than intended, but that is OK, we are in no rush to head out. We worked a full day at work and I do not want to leave during rush hour. There are 484 miles to our first destination. Google says seven hours driving in a car. This will translate to about 10 hours in an RV when you take into account the slower pace and stops for meals and gas.
Ten years ago, when we started doing road trips, we would plan 600 mile days no problem. As time has passed those days have become more difficult on us, and while last year we did drive that much one day, it is not something we plan anymore. If there is a day we feel like driving more we will do it, but we do not want to depend on that kind of schedule. We want to be able to get to our destination early enough to have some downtime before we call it a night. Around 400 miles in a day is what we now feel comfortable planning.
This trip is only the two of us. Our children started their full time jobs so they now have responsibilities of their own. We went on a family vacation earlier this year. Our daughter was sad to miss this one though. She has the travel bug like I do.
We drove a little over 100 miles to Presque Isle Casino where we spend the night. It took us almost three hours to get there since there was still traffic. See what I mean, everything is just slower in the RV.
