Last day in Singapore
We had a lay in as it was our last day in Singapore. We had breakfast at 'Tak Po' restaurant again. Jay had chicken congee (rice porridge) and Helen had cuttlefish congee. They were very tasty. Whilst eating breakfast a really old frail woman appeared behind Helen with her trolley full of cardboard and old stuff. She tried to push her trolley through the table but was struggling, it apperared that all she wanted was to sit down and rest. Helen offered some congee to the old woman but she did not want it.
After breakfast we went to Little India to browse around, not alot was going on so we crossed the road to 'Sim Lim Square', which is a big shopping centre full of electronics. Jay bought an IPhone case for his mobile which is alot cheaper than if he purchased the same one on the UK.
For lunch we ate at Sim Lim food centre (there are food centres everywhere). Jay had white and black 'carrot cake' which is like an omelette. Helen had a Vietnamese pancake which is also like an omelette but with yellow beans, beansprouts, pork and prawns wrapped inside the pancake. For dessert we had fruits: papaya, honeydew melon and pineapple, very fresh and juicy. We enjoyed our lunch.
We caught the bus from 'Orchard Boulevard' to get to the Singapore Botanic Gardens. We strolled around and saw lots of beautiful trees and plants. We walked through the rainforest there and saw some medium sized spiders.
Today the sun was very strong and it was very humid even in open spaces, there was hardly any breeze, the weather report said it was 36 degrees centigrade.
We noticed that travelling around today on a Sunday via different stations was very busy and crowded with people getting to and from places.
After the Botanic Garden we went back to our hostel to have a shower as we were hot and sticky from today's humidity.
For dinner we thought we would treat ourselves to a Stingray fish. We ate at 'Makansutra Gluttons Bay' again as they do good food there. The stingray fish was delicious, the meat was so tender, there were not many bones and it was easy to
eat. We also had chilli crispy chicken which was also delicious. For drinks Jay had sugar cane with lemon and a tiger beer. Helen had fresh orange juice. We had to queue a good 15 to 20 minutes for the food and waited for it to cook but was well worth it! The place was so busy, we struggled to find a seat again so we shared a
table with a couple.
After dinner we walked to the 'Fountain of wealth' through Suntec City Mall. When we got there we queued for the touching of the water ceremony. We had to walk around 3 times the water fountain whilst using our right hand to touch the water and make a silent wish. After doing this we walked out where there were seats nearby and reflected the fact that it was our last day in Singapore and it has been a fantastic experience.
In summary, Singapore is very clean, friendly, beautiful. It has a huge range of food from around the world with an abundance of shopping malls! The country is well organised and efficient in the way it is run and designed for example, people here alight the trains before others enter and queue in an orderly fashion for the trains. Another thing we noticed is that most of the toilets flush automatically after use. Haha ! Brilliant ! :)
