Day 5
We woke up at 8.30am and got ready for breakfast at the 'Tak Po' restaurant below our hostel. This is restaurant is famous in Chinatown for Hong Kong dim sum and home cooked dishes.
After breakfast we went to 'Harbourfront' station to get to Sentosa Island, we got to the island on a cable car, it cost 24SGD each and this included entry pass to the island. The views from the cable car was great.
Sentosa Island is a lovely big resort area with some nice beaches, a casino, a Universal Studio theme park, cafes, restaurants, bars, a volleyball area and other cool attractions such as the surf machine and the 'Trapeze' where people can zip wire from the tree tops across to the small island. It also has the Tiger Sky Tower which is the tallest observatory tower in Singapore with a height of 131m above sea level.
When we got to Sentosa Island, we started off by relaxing on 'Siloso' beach, which is a nice beach. We then walked to 'Palawan' beach which took 10 to 15 minutes to get to, this is also a nice beach. We stopped off a food court called 'Koufu' to get some fruit. We shared pineapple, watermelon and starfruit. They were very fresh and juicy, we enjoyed it as usual.
We came across a suspension bridge and walked across it to a small islet, this is where we reached the most southern point in continental Asia!
When we walked to the station nearby to get the Sentosa Express train we got caught in heavy rain, this only lasted approximately 10 to 15 minutes. When the rain calmed down we walked towards the station and spotted a baboon with a big bottom, some colourful birds and a rooster-like bird!
When we got back to Chinatown where we stayed, we were peckish and got some snacks. Helen had an egg tart which was fresh and light. Jay had a roast pork bun which he enjoyed.
We had a shower after a very hot day at Sentosa Island and we both noticed that we got a bit burnt from the sun and put lots of Aloe Vera gel on which was cooling.
For dinner we went to Chinatown Street Food, Helen had cockles fried kway teow which is a noodles based dish, this was tasty ! Helen had a wintermelon tea to drink. Jay had chicken fried kway teow and a tiger beer of course to drink.
After dinner we made our way to 'Ang Mo Kio' station to get the bus at the bus interchange to the Night Safari. When we arrived we queued up to pay for the entrance fee of 32SGD each. They had an impressive fire show on, we watched this for a bit then went on the tram to start the night safari. We saw some lions, one was eating and the others were resting, they looked so majestic! After approximately 10 to 15 minutes into the night safari we stopped off to go on the 'Leopard Trail'. We saw lots of Asian animals up close, including a red and white giant flying squirrel which flew across us, this was amazing to see! We went into the 'Mangrove Walk' where the harmless fruit bats are. It was here that we saw a big bat up close hanging upside down with it's wings wrapped up looking at us, this was funny to see! We saw some of the bats eat fruits on the tree and bats flying above our head. We heard the lions roar as we walked along the leopard trail, this was fantastic to hear! Other Asian animals that we saw up close included porcupines and leopards, this was a great experience !
After the leopard trail we hopped back on the tram ride to finish off the safari, we saw elephants, rhinos, hippos, hyenas, water anglo cattles, buffalos with massive horns, ox's, beautiful deers, tigers and many other wonderful animals. The whole experience was amazing, being in a rainforest and getting up really close to animals there!
