Day 3
We woke up at 10am feeling good as we did not use the alarm to wake us up. We made our way to the Marriott pool thinking it was an indoor pool, it was a pleasant surprise to find out it was a lovely outdoor pool with the sun beaming down, we had a swim and dried off in the sun then went to use the spa facilities one last time. We checked out at 1pm and will miss the Marriott Hotel and it's facilities. We had lunch at a 'Food Republic' food court, we both had beef noodle soup, it was very tasty and filling.
We made our way to Chinatown to check into the 'Beary Nice' hostel. As soon as we got out of the station we arrived to colourful buildings and torrential rain, we waited approximately 10 minutes for it to calm down then walked to Smith Street and found our hostel. This is a clean and cozy hostel with a lovely communal area. The hostel's interior is decorated with cute teddy bears. Our dormitory room had 6 bunk beds to the room.
On the way to the Marina Sands Bay, we spotted a street stall selling roast pork buns and thought we would try some and glad we did as it was the best roast pork bun we have had. They had sesame and coriander in them.
We got off Espanade station and walked along a beautifully designed steel bridge called the Helix bridge to get to the Sands Sky Park. It was a bit of a rush to get there as we wanted to get up there before sunset. We were very hot and sweaty by the time we got there but was well worth it as the skyline view was amazing. The Marina Bay Sands Hotel is a very unique and impressive building shaped with 3 towers and a surf board/boat looking piece on top of the 3 towers. We waited for the sun to set and once set the skyline views of Singapore were absolutely amazing. The sky went orange and the sun came through the clouds, it was a very round orange sun, very beautiful indeed! We both agreed that this is the most beautiful sunset in a city that we have seen.
We had dinner at 'Makansutra Gluttons Bay' hawker centre which is near the bayfront. This place was so busy, it was a struggle to find a seat. We sat with a friendly Filipino couple, the husband was out here working and the wife was on holiday visiting. We ordered garlic tiger king prawns and seafood fried rice, they were so delicious. Helen had pineapple with lemon and Jay had a tiger beer to drink.
After dinner we strolled along an area called 'Boat Quay', it had lots of bars and restaurants serving seafood. We saw some live king crabs, spider crabs, lobsters and various seafood in tanks. After this we got to Clarke Quay where there are many nice and funky bars by the river, some bars have live bands. The location and layout makes this area so beautiful. We went to 'The Clinic' bar, sat in a wheelchair and drank this nice green cocktail through an intravenous drip. After this we made our way back to the hostel as it was getting late.
