After leaving Carins we headed into the outback flying to Alice Springs, the heat hit us as soon as we landed. After a night in our hostel our tour guide picked us up at 6am, too early for a backpacker! We picked up a few more travellers mainly english and a few irish girls the journey began into the bush, we travelled for a good few hours till we got to King's Canyon where we had lunch and began our walk up 'heart attack hill', we all survived just. It was a beautiful walk round the canyon even though it was extremly hot! Back on the bus and another good few hours into the bush with a stop at the nearest bottle shop and fire wood finding we arrived at out bush camp. Drew, our guide, started the fire and cooked up a good feast that we couldn't wait to eat. Our sleeping arrangments for the night were swags, basicly a big sleeping bag made out of canvas, under the stars. Day 2 and we were up at 4.30, definately not backpacker o'clock. Porridge for breakfast then back on the road to 'The Olgas' a set of big mounds. Another walk but not as bad as the day before and more shade to hide in. After luch by the Olgas we were back on the bus heading for Ayres Rock or The Rock as we learnt it should be called, not even Uluru as this is just one point on the Rock. We had a quick trip round the cultural centre, a short walk round a bit of the Rock then we took up our spot for sunset. While we watched the sun go down Drew cooked up another fantastic meal which we ate until it got dark then headed for camp. Day 3 and up at 5.15 this time so that we could get back to the Rock to see sunrise and have breakfast. Our moring was completed with a morning walk round the base of the Rock which I really enjoyed, then the raod back home. On the way we stopped at a camel farm where we got to ride them, very funny watching everyones faces as the camels stood up and started running! Back in Alice Springs the tour was completed with a group meal and a few drinks at Bo's the only pub in Alice!
We were sad to leave Alice but on to Perth, this unfortunalty has not really been the best move we've made. We arrived to rain and a hostel that had mould growing up the walls and drunk men wandering in at all hours. To say the least the next morning we moved to a new hostel which is much better and no mould so far as I can see. Last night we went to an International Rules game, a cross between Aussie Rules Football and Gaelic Football. Very fast moving game only just understood the rules but great fun to watch, especially the lads running onto the pitch at the end and being chased by security (not starkers by the way).
Tomorrow we get on a train for 3 days heading for Adelaide, that should be fun, the ipod is all charged and the cards are ready! Then we get a camper and tour the Great Ocean Road before we get to dress up for the Melbourne cup. Hope all is well at home adn everyones ok. Speak soon Love Zu!xxx
