Zoe and Ed's Travels
Hello All,
Here is a brief summary of what we've been up to in St Petersburg.
Found our hostel with not too much trouble - we only tried to break into one appartment block before finding the right door. The hostel is really quite nice, and populated by lots of friendly people from various places around the world. And there's free Internet access! Shared some vodka with a Scotsman, a Frenchman, an Aussie, and Argentinian bloke and a Brazilian girl, and had a good chat about anything and everything. The were a little confused as to why there was so much cricket on BBC World all the time, but I think that we managed to spread the word a little.
On the sightseeing front, we've been to the Hermitage (very good - lots of grand palace rooms, and lots of exceptional artwork by the likes of Monet, Gaugin, Renoir, Picasso etc.). We were much impressed. Also seen some pretty churches, and various other bits and bobs on a walking tour of Nevsky Prospect. Lots of photo opportunities (keep logging into the site to check for when we get time to post some of them).
Took a little while to get used to the metro, and the shopping for food, but we got it sorted eventually. Still have a few problems trying to ask for things in shops. We can always resort to pointing to the phrasebook.
Anyway. Next stop Moscow. Byeeeeeee.
