Bula!!
We got back from Fiji this morning and got a night in Auckland so thought it was a good chance to fill you all in on our week in Fiji and our Christmas in the sunshine!!
We flew out of NZ on the 20th and arrived in Nadi at 4.30pm. We got off the plane and got our bags and then went to the awesome adventures (who we were booked with!) desk, they told us we were meant to start travelling that day and would have to pay more to go the next day,so the bundled us into a taxi, told the driver to get us to the port for the ferry by 5.30 and that they had booked us into Beachcoomber resort. We had no idea what we were meant to do or anything, the taxi man drove a little bit crazily but got us there in time and then after half an hour on the big yellow boat we were told to get off onto a smaller one which took us to the resort. When we first arrived we both just stood for a while trying to work out what we were doing and what had just happened! We soon settled into the island life though!! We had a couple of cocktails and danced on the sand, which at first was a strange experience but soon got used to it!!
We left Beachcoombers about 9am the next day and went back on the ferry to another island, the resort we stayed at was Wayalailai Ecohaven Resort. It was very nice here and we saw an amazing sunset!! Whilst we were here we both weaved a bracelet with two ladies helping us from the local village! everyone was so friendly and chatted to us and called us "English Roses"
We only stayed at Wayalailai for one night so headed further up north to another island where we stayed at Long Beach Resort, like the name suggests it was a very long beach! We stayed here for two nights. We had a coconut demonstration where they showed us how the open them and use them, we tried the juice and flesh from both a green and a brown coconut! After dinner we played 'flickyflicky' with some of the locals. this was a bit of a mix of billiards and air hockey! It was a square board on the floor and you had to flick a white disk at coloured ones and get all ur colour in the 4 corner holes! we played quite a few times and didnt seem to improve, although still got lots of encouragement from the Fijians even when we missed everything completely! We also tried their local drink, its is called Kava and looks abit like tea, it tastes worse! it is kind of like muddy water which u have to down! the next day we went to the blue lagoon and swam in the clear blue water and enjoyed the sun! Later on did some basket weaving and both made our own baskets! although had to leave them behind as we knew we wouldnt be able to get them home!
We moved on to our final stop, White Sandy Beach. this is where we spent christmas! on the first day there, only 5 of us were there. one slightly crazy man who gave us all much entertainment coz he said some very odd things, most of the time he didnt realise we were laughing at him not with him! the staff did some Fijian dancing and then get us all up, we played musical statues! Christmas day we got woken up for breakfast by the drums (beaten every meal time at every island to let u know food is ready) and went for breakfast, special treat of chocolate donuts!! Then we enjoyed sunbathing, thinking how much better the sunshine we had was compared to all the snow!! we went to honeymoon beach in the afternoon on the otherside of the island and went snorkelling, we saw some amazing blue and yellow fish! then we had a christmas dinner, cooked in the Fijian way - on hot rocks which were buried! it was really good and we even got pudding that night as well :) we saw some more fijian dancing and again they got us up dancing and playing games. Finally to finish Christmas day off we had a bonfire on the beach and sat around talking! The next day we enjoyed our final sunbathing session and then left to head back to Nadi, it was sad leaving this island coz the staff had welcomed us 4 like family and so we were a Christmas family for the day even though more people arrived!
We stayed the night in Nadi, had an early morning flight back to Auckland, we then went shopping in the Christmas sales and tried to be as good as possible! but its hard when the clothes shops are so good without sales!
Heading up to the very north of New Zealand tomorrow morning so will try and update again before we head to New York!
Hope everyone enjoyed their Christmasses, see u all when we are back! xxxxxxx
