Hello all,
busy times recently. zoe and i landed in singapore on the 28th where we met lucy, we had 3 days in singapore and saw little india, china town, topshop, the river. all very nice, there's a really nice mix of cultures there. on the tuesday we got a bus to kuala lumpur, the buses are dead good, the seats recline and have loads of leg room.
KL is pretty different to singapore, we got totally ripped off by the worlds rudest taxi driver after we directed him to a fancy hotel which was near our guesthouse - "very nice hostel, 5 star" then proceeded to vastly overcharge, refuse to give us change and chuck us out the taxi. grrrrr. on the wednesday we met my friend Christine who did a fabulous job of playing tourguide, we went to the batu caves, which are up many steps and there were monkeys everywhere and a monkey stole zoe's drink, then after we headed to the lake gardens where we had a fancy lunch. we also went up the petronas towers which despite being the 2nd tallest building in the world only let you go up to the 40th floor so not actually that high. We went to an amazing waterpark - the sunway lagoon for some much needed chilling out with our new, fellow harry potter obsessive rachel and then friday we went to the national gallery and another lake before getting a night bus to thailand.
the night bus was a pain cos despite reclining seats it was air-conditioned to arctic proportions and so not that easy to sleep and we kept having to get off. thai customs took like 2 hours as well but eventually we got to hatyai (no idea how you spell that) and from there we got a bus to songkla (that either) which played thai pop videos the whole way, they all seemed to be rather stuck into the 80s but there was a good one with the asian ron and harry. songkla turned out to be nice but unfortunately a bit of a pointless detour cos we had to go back to hatyai to get to ko samui but we got that organised thanks to our lovely guesthouse lady.
So now we're in ko samui for some well deserved chilling out (really). we're staying in hat chaweng which is the main touristy bit - it has a starbucks, mcdonalds, even a bloody tesco. it's a bit cloudy but thats kind of a relief cos its also seriously hot when sunbathing. we're probs gonna stay here for the rest of the week unless it starts raining on us and at some point head over to ko pha ngan.
toodle pip
xxx alex, zoe and lucy
