Hola von Pai!!
We have both been feeling quite ill since we spoke to you last. Getting better now, we think its just the anti-malarials messing with us. Now we only feel bad after we have eaten. Which would be fine, but we like to eat.
We spent our last day in Chiang mai (weds) at a national park, where we went on a little walk. Zoe saw a snake. We didnt get all the way to the viewpoint, because the path was blocked by rabid, growling dogs. We scaled to the top of the hill above the path and stealthed it down past the dogs. The dogs saw us. We ran calmly away fast. We found no other way round, so we gave up, but it actually worked out OK as we didnt miss the train this way.
Yesterday we got a public bus to Pai, which is right in the mountains in the north. The bus was rather cramped and we were split up. Luckily zoe was sat by a load of monks so there was more room for her because they can't have posessions. (it makes them a bad person). Sarah had a soldier falling alseep in her lap, and lots of farmers with soy sauce next to her. We like pie(Pai), its a cute little village where westeners, thais, thai muslims and hilltribe people mix. Also there is a good bakery.Though it does cause us digestional pain after each visit.
Today we hired a moped LOL! Don't worry mum(s) and dad(s) it was all very safe. We chavved it over to a waterfall which was rather inviting even if there were americans there too. We have booked a hill tribe trek for tomorrow, which will last 3 days. Going through the jungle with a guide, past caves and waterfalls(Zzzzz) and staying a night with a tribe. Tomorrow night will be spent wild in the jungle, where they will give us machetes to build our shelter out of the jungles natural bamboo. Machete=fun.
We would have sent this email half an hour earlier, but we got held up at the local jamming session. We were walking down the road eating pineapple when we paused for a moment to laugh at all the locals sitting outside the knitting shop in a circle playing their home-made instruments and eating oranges. Only, they looked at us and laughed, then shouted welcome so we felt we had to join them. We clapped for a bit.
Will talk to ya'll when we get back from the forest monday/tuesday.
Adios for now xx
