We set off to Punta Hermosa in search of waves. We picked a hostel (Merlin Hostal) through trip advisor. The reviews were good, and they spoke of Juan (the owner) being very hospitable, knowledgable and helpful regarding board purchases etc. As we were looking for boards and a good place to stay we chose it. For ($14US) a night for a 3 bed dorm, we thought why not.
We arrived by taxi (S80) from Lima.
Juan was very hospitable, took us on a tour of the surf spots in Punta Hermosa. He also took us by bus on to 2 different surf shops where Sam and I both bought boards cheap ($200US & $120US).
So both with boards, we were set. Although the waves were fat they were still quite big and powerful. I went out one day and caught a left (it's primarily a right) and that was enough for me. Sam surfed the whole 4 days we stayed there, while I sun baked lol!
If I could give myself some advice of things to pack before I left, they would be... Board bag/sock, fins, leash, wax wax wax, wax comb, fin key...
Punta Hermosa is little town on the beach that is for the rich. There are gates and guards at every entrance/exit. The apartments/houses are very nice. There is a black beach/white beach, where the Peruvians actually separate themselves between 'white' and brown Peruvians. Racism against darker Peruvians is apparent all over peru.
4 days were enough for us down there and we headed back to Lima for a night before heading to Haunchaco, where we are now
