So what's been happening this week in the world of Zane? Not much really, but you know I'll be able to fill your screen with dribble just in case you need to kill some time at work.
Still haven't started work yet. I have another training day in Brighton tomorrow before I start work on Thursday. Brighton has been described to me as Notting Hill by the sea. Considering I haven't seen Notting Hill yet I'll just have to take their word for it. Brighton is fairly picturesque, with rolling hills by the beach (not your ordinary beach... the sand, if you could call it that is pebble size) and narrow lanes which look specifically designed to prevent fat tourist access. Not a problem for skinny little me though! From the beach you can see the Brighton Pier which burnt down about a year ago. It looks like a charred skeleton mansion on stilts.
A little more investigation of the transport system and I've found a bus route which after a short stroll can take me fairly close to work in under 20 minutes. The bus stop is about 5 minutes walk from home and includes an underpass below a train line which my house mates have affectionately named the "dungeon". As you walk through the ceiling gradually lowers until at one end you have a 5'10" (1.78m) clearance. A bit freaky but I guess being a short arse can pay off occasionally!
Last week I strolled around Trafalgar Square which, as has been already pointed out to me, is virtually devoid of pigeons now. Apparently they had a successful campaign to be rid of them. Most people I speak to refer to them as rats with wings but I was personally looking forward to being surrounded by them, provided there were no pigeon accidents. Oh well... neither was meant to be.
Saturday I had the opportunity to spend a day a Camden Market which sprawls across streets and a canal in an effort to sell you a variety of wares from tacky souvenirs to hand crafted goods and second hand clothing. It's huge, packed with people and seems to cater for everyone. I bought a scarf which on closer inspection makes me look like a Nancy boy... but if the boot fits!
Saturday night was Paul and Laurens house party. Got well plastered and had a fantastic time... 'nuff said! :)
And then yesterday I visited the British Museum which is enormous! I decided to skip the tour and take everything in at my own pace but after reading most of the plaques in the Ancient Egyption section I realised I wouldn't see much in one day at the rate I was travelling so I started being a little more selective. It was absolutely amazing to see the variety of ancient artefacts on display. Even the more modern sections with contemporary exhibits were highly involving. Then I heard a soft siren and before I knew it hoards of people, including myself, were being escorted to the exit and the place was surrounded by fire trucks. My bag was in the cloak room, as was my new Nancy scarf so I dropped in to local pub for an hour to kill the time. In the end we were let back in but I only saw half of the exhibits so I decided that I'd have to come back a second day to see the rest. I think it really should be split in to two days anyway.
Hope this successfully killed a part of your day you never planned to work in anyway. Till next time, adios amigos...
Cheers!
Zane
