Hi guys,
I'm sorry I've been so bad at updating you about my life lately, but there's been a bunch of stuff going on every day. The least I can do is to give you a glimpse of some of the things that's been going on. Last time I updated you it was Jamie's birthday. Such a fun weekend! We didn't get much sleep. Especially not Jamie. The day after J's bday was the Back 2 School Party, which Jim Bean sponsored. Haha. I don't know any school in Sweden with partys sponsored by whisky companies. We felt really old at the party though, so we jetted at midnight for some more fun at the clubs in Broadbeach with Jamie and his friends.
I finally made it up to Brisbane at the end of the weekend with Julia and Lina. We were such tourists taking photos of eeeeverything. I like Brissy. Felt totally different from Surfers though. Brissy could've been a city in the US. In fact I felt more like I was in a new American city than in Aussie. Although, I guess I'm always going to compare everything here with Europe and the US..
When I came back from Brisbane we had another late night with Axel and his family. His little sister is such a cutie pie! Made me miss my own family and the little kids I've taken care of for ages. Axel left on Wed morning. Quite sad. I can imagine how it must feel to go home after three years of living here. I know how sad I was after my two years in the US..
During our Conf&Conv lecture our teacher told us about two job opportunites he had posted at the learning@Griffith site. I applied to both of them right there in class, and went to talk to Bev (the one in charge of the first one) right after the lecture ended. I got it :) It's a big Strata conference here in Surfers, in Sept. It's voluntary, so I won't get any $ out of it, but I figured you have to start somewhere, right? And I'll get more experience and hopefully more contacts in the end. I got the second one too, a couple of days later. At least that was the impression I got?! Haha. I'll tell you more about that one as soon as I know. I also have a trial coming up at a lounge bar near by. I hope I ace it. It's attached to a big hotel with conference area and if I do get it there were talks about me being able to work in all areas of the hotel as well :) So wish me luck!
Yesterday was Race Day, which was a whole new concept for me. Our school arranged it, so everyone there were Griffith students. Basically it's an afternoon spent at the horse race while wearing fancy clothes & hats/creations and sipping drinks. You're also supposed to bet on the horses, which Felix couldn't get enough of. Haha. He did win every race he bet on though, so I guess it was worth it :P Having an open bar for students might not be the best thing for some venues, especially when a bunch of students got thrown out for not being able to hold their cool. Some seemed to think they needed to "cash in" on all the alcohol they could swallow. You all know how that ends... Haha.
So back to this upcoming week. Andy is coming back from Sydney today, I have a trial at Stingray and a meeting about Strata, then there's school and hopefully a very exciting weekend coming up. We'll have to wait and see how it goes at Stingray though, because if I do well I'm supposed to come back on Thur night too and then I'm not sure what my working hours are going to be like..
Mary and Angela, if you see this I want to talk to you so let me know when you're free to Skype :)
