It was really crazy flying from Fiji to Hawaii, we went back in time! We left Fiji at around 10pm on a Friday night and then arrived in Hawaii at 8am that same Friday morning, it was mad! So we were pretty tired and confused as to which day it was for our first few days! When we arrived in Hawaii we were on the island of Oahu and we stayed in Waikiki for our first 5 nights. Waikiki was great, really touristy but it just has a really nice feel to it, or at least we think so. Waikiki beach is cool, there are surfers everywhere, we even saw two people doing acrobatics whilst surfing, the guy was standing on the board throwing the woman in the air and things, it was like something off the TV!! The shops are also amazing in Waikiki, we could easily spend a fortune - if we had a fortune! Every other weekend on the beach the government puts on entertainment and a movie, all for free. It is so cool, they have dancers and singers on a huge stage and everyone sits on the beach and watches. Then when the sun has gone down they play a movie on a giant screen. We didn't watch the movie because it didn't look very good, it was a great atmosphere on the beach though. From Waikiki we caught the bus to Pearl Harbour. This was a pretty humbling experience, it is so sad to think what happened and the amount of people that lost thier lives. The memorial is really beautiful though, you get a free tour across to the Arizona Memorial which is for the USS Arizona ship which went down during the bombing, the most people were killed on this ship. The ship itself is actually still there, you can see it under the water, and most of the men that were killed were entombed in the ship so their bodies lie under there too. Pearl Harbour is one of the most visited places in America, there were so many people there, we had to wait 2 hours for our tour, it was worth it though. We also caught the bus up to the North Shore which is beautiful. The beaches are picture perfect and there is a cool little town, tiny town actually but it is real old style and has loads of charm. We went to the beach where Pipe is which is a famous surf spot where they hold a pro competition every year in the winter. It is funny because there were hardly any waves at all but in the winter the waves are around 20 to 30 foot, it was really hard to imagine. We spent the whole day up on the North Shore stopping off at a few of the beaches, it was so beautiful. The rest of our time was spent wandering around the shops and just chilling. We have another 5 days here after we have been to Maui, which we will probably spend on the beach but we will report back and let you know!
