From Jasper we broke up our journey to Whistler by staying at a little place called Clearwater. It was a lovely little place, we only stayed one night and had a drive in the provincial park to see some waterfalls which was nice.
We then continued on to Whistler which has made it on to our all time favourite places list. The place is AMAZING and looks to be ski heaven on earth. We didn't get to see any snow, apart from at the top of the mountain but the ski runs look great. Our hostel was in the most amazing location as well, literally right on the edge of Alta Lake, the views while eating breakfast were priceless.
On one of our afternoons Phil and his dad played golf at the Big Sky Golf course in Pemberton. I went too and drove the golf cart, I'm becoming quite an expert at it now! The golf course was really nice and they both enjoyed playing apart from that we were eaten alive by man eating mosquitoes!!!
The only other thing we did in Whistler apart from relaxing and canoeing was to go up to the top of Whistler mountain which was fantastic. You can take the ski lifts right to the top and then walk around up there. The views were just breathtaking, for us some of the best views we have ever seen. Snow topped mountains for as far as you can see and you can see Whistler village and all the ski runs on Blackcomb mountain, which is the mountain next to Whistler. Another added bonus of going up the mountain was the sighting of 9 bears!!! FANTASTIC!!!! On the way up in the gondola we saw 4 young bears playing in the grass, then on the way down we saw 1 huge bear strolling through a clearing and then a mother with 3 cubs, it was just unbelievable. They were so beautiful and it was just amazing to see them in the wild, definately a highlight of the trip.
We both definately want to come back to Whistler, hopefully in the winter to do some skiing, we just loved it, FABULOUS place!!!!
