Ok, so firstly i must apologise for the delay on this blog. For those of you who are still with me (dont worry Jo, i know its a lot to read!) we're now in the south island and have been for a while. I'll try my best to sum up as best i can what we've been upto for the last week/2 weeks.
Firstly, the boat over here. Having become a world class napper (those of you who lived with me at uni will know i perfected the art in 2nd year), i was apalled to find a man on the boat who put my dad's snoring to shame. Waking up, I honestly thought the boat was sinking. Terrifying.
Anyway, this was the start of our 2nd 'sector' of new zealand and the south island is absolutely beautiful. Stunning lakes, mountains, glaciers, you name it, its here! We've also stayed in some very nice hostels and done some lovely walks, inlcuding a walk up to the centre of new zealand.
At this point must also mention the 'Poo Pub'. Not as disgusting as it sounds, it was simply a 'hostel; in the middle of nowhere run by an old man names Les. Simply put, we had a huge fancy dress party. I do often wonder what it is about fancy dress parties that ensures a solid proportion of the boys will go as women. Answers on a postcard please...
From there we headed to Franz Josef, renowned for its glacier hikes and helicopter rides. Whilst Juliet fancied a scenic helicopter ride and Emma enjoyed a full day glacier hike, i spent the day catching up on sleep, doing some washing (underwear seems to disappear from my bag everyday - scary!) and reading my book.
At the risk of this getting too long, i will quickly mention queenstown where we've been for a good few nights. Its very much about socialising, catching up with the people from your old buses and having a drink (or 2). Realising we had too much time, 6 of us that have been together for over 3 weeks hired a car and headed to Milford Sounds for a 3 hour cruise. Stopping in Te Anu (for those following our every move), we stayed in a holiday park and i even managed to catch the Utd match at 2am! It was really fun having a car, much easier to do our own thing and more importantly, the road trip karaoke was unrivalled.
I'm sure there's lots of other things ive missed out, but to be honest, im becoming increasingly lazy (unsurprising i know!). So until next time readers...i miss you all! x
