Ok, so we finally meet again. After putting this off for so long, its time i explained to all of you that dont know, what happened so many weeks ago with my passport and how i finally made it over to Australia. If you're lucky, i might even manage to include some of the cool stuff we've done over here too!
So, the day that has since been known as 'Black Thursday' started as an ordinary day - until i realised my passport was nowhere to be seen. Scouting the whole of Queenstown proved futile. I wont go into it too much, but suffice it to say that 150 quid (and 2 flights later), i wont be doing that again!
We moved onto Christchurch the next day and with lost police forms and the likes stuffed into an envelope, i put things to the back of my mind. Christchurch is not very exciting. Lucky for me, i would soon have an extra 3 days to enjoy the nothingness, although with a few friends still hanging around, we managed to amuse ourselves in the various odd shops, a random art gallery, a cinema trip and at least 15 souvenir shops (Yes Em, dont worry, I got Jack his fridge magnet!)
From here, we took our last trip on the Kiwi Bus (for free might i add!) to Kaikoura. But disaster struck and with the weather being so poor, the girls were unable to go 'whale watching' - which left us with a whole day and very little to do. One of the boys managed to amuse himself by throwing food near me and watching seagulls surround me -i was NOT amused and having spent the day arranging flights, my temper was pretty short too.
Finally, back in Christchurch (following a journey with the angriest bus driver ever!) we had our last supper together as a group. Having spent 5 weeks as a group of 6, it really was sad to see the group split up and go their separate ways (especially when i was the little one still standing there at the end!).
Saturday was the BIG JOURNEY and with only a book, an ipod and a sense of humour, i left the hostel. 2 public buses, 2 shuttles, 3 aeroplanes and 4 airports later, i arrived hot and tired at the hostel in Cairns. The girls were there to greet me and despite staying in a hostel most renowned for its partying, i went straight to sleep (ignoring the fact that the entire room appeared to be vibrating with the beats from the bar below!).
Cairns was lovely (when it was sunny). We took a boat trip out to the Reef, where Juliet and I spent an enjoyable 2 hours with our heads down the toilets. Once the sea calmed down, we actually enjoyed some great snorkeling and stopped on a tiny natural beach in the middle of the ocean. We even spotted some sea turtles, and yes Mum, we saw nemo! Having recovered from earlier seasickness, and not being ones to waste food, we munched a huge lunch, followed by fruit, cheese & crackers and then cake. No need to worry about us starving, thats for sure!!
We also took a trip up to the rainforest. Despite another 'near-puke' experience around some mountains, I survived and we had a swim in a stunning lake and later stopped at the waterfall where Peter Andre's 'Mysterious Girl' video was filmed - exciting i know!!
Once we'd arrived back in Cairns, Emma and I took advantage of the various free dinner vouchers we still had left and munched our way around Cairns before heading to bed early in preparation for the start of Oz Experience.
As the internet cafe is closing very soon, that will have to do for now. Im sure i've given you all plenty to think about and if not - then at least some understanding as to what i was doing in NZ on my own for a little while.
To Be Continued...
Miss you all xxx
