Hello again followers, its been a while and i have lots to report. What is extremely annoying is this temperamental keyboard im using though, so please bear with me and any spelling atrocities.
So, this blog starts after Arlie Beach. We had an overnight stop in the outback somewhere at a cattle station. For any of you who have seen Wolf Creek, you can imagine how scared i was! Anyway, we arrived, put on our cowboy hats and 'neckerchiefs' and engaged in such cowboy activites as whip cracking, riding the bucking bronco and...wait for it...goat herding (plenty of amusing photos on this subject!). We also made the most of the relatively cheap 'giggly juice' - fizzy wine - ill leave the effects to the imagination.
Next we were off to 1770, a tiny town with very little to do...and it was raining. However, the next day was sunny and we took ourselves off to the beach before our much anticipated 'Scooter Roo' ride. Basically, this included 50 of us riding scooters around the town and trying not to kill ourselves or eachother. After half an hour, emma had had enough and about an hour after that, Juliet was removed for being too slow. As we headed back from seeing the sunset up on the hill, i lost control and very nearly hurt myself. All in all, a lot of fun, but not for those who are faint hearted or accident prone! That night we were subject to a 'biker party' where we covered ourselves in biker tattoos and got very drunk. The next morning, it was a treat trying to scrub the damn things off!!
We also had a cheap surf lesson in 1770. Whilst i was the only one who actually managed to stand up on the board, i also ended up with a big fat sand graze on my thigh (which is only just healing and has managed to take most of my tan with it!).
From here, we headed to Rainbow Beach for the notorious Fraser Island trip. During the orientation, we scanned the room and carefully selected 2 german guys and a french guy who looked like they might know what to do if anything went wrong. We were joined by a canadian girl and another french guy. After 4 hours of packing, unpacking and re-packing, along with an interesting briefing informing us that 'nobody likes a dickhead on fraser island' (sorry mum), we were off. The next 2 days were, to sum up, lots of driving on the beach, swimming in lakes, walking to beautiful viewpoints, and then cooking, drinking and sleeping in tents. All was well until the drive back to the barge. Suddenly, lots of sand was flying up the back of the car (aptly named something not very nice) and the wheel had completely burst. As we watched, completely helpless as the canadian girl lay under the car changing the wheel in the rain, i wondered how 4 men could be so useless in such a situation!
Leaving Rainbow Beach, we stopped in Noosa for the night at a rather unpleasant hostel. We had a hilarious 'S' themed party here and met up with a couple of girls we'd known in NZ. But the next morning, we were off to luxury in Mooloolaba (thats a real place!) to stay with Emma's family friends. After 2.5 months, there was nothing more amazing than hot, homemade dinner, luxury bathrooms, private bedrooms and free internet!! From there, we visited the Australian Zoo and paid our hard earned cash for the obligatory 'holding a koala photo'. They looked after us so well, it really was difficult to say goodbye and head off to another hostel.
Anyway, thats all for now. The sun in shining in Byron Bay, so i must be off, but will catch up again soon. Miss you all xx
