So it is now the end of an era as we returned to the UK on the 20th May 2010.
The last time I wrote we were in Luang Probang which was a very quaint village. We enjoyed the night market and local fashion show. One of my favourite days in Laos was when we took a day trip to the waterfall. I couldn't have imagined how beautiful it was, such a pleasant surprise and it took my breath away.
We crossed the border back to Thailand for the last two weeks of our trip and went to Chaing Mai which I loved!!!! I went to see elephants painting, a Thai boxing match. I went on a cooking course and on a day trip to an elephant reserve park. I have loved absolutely everything that I did in Chaing Mai. The cooking course was so much fun and I could actually do it which was totally unexpected. And my day at the Elephant Reserve was one of my best days travelling. Very moving how this amazing little woman rescues elephants in terrible conditions. The elephants can roam free and we were allowed to get in the river with some of the calmer elephants which is something that I will remember for the rest of my life. I am going to donate to them once a get a job.
We headed to Ko Phangan where I experienced some of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen. It was picturesque with the most beautiful beaches. We enjoyed a couple of nights at the beach parties, but then got kinda bored as they are exactly the same every night, even the exact same songs!! A lot of fun for a few days. We also went to a black moon party which was cool with all fluorescent lighting and a big party tent. And the best fire dancer I have ever seen!! I really enjoyed days relaxing at the beach and swimming in the sea.
We the headed back to Bangkok to fly home but at this point the fighting had really kicked back off with many people dieing and buildings getting blown up. We arrived at 8am the day before. I enjoyed a bit of shopping and couldn't tell there was much bother going on. Until it came to the afternoon and we found out that there was a curfew and had to find some food before everywhere shut. We have stopped at Bangkok 3 times whilst travelling and have never known it to be like this. We went in our room pretty early and could hear helicopters all night. On the way to the airport the next day there were quite a few buildings on fire from bombs and it was very surreal. I think we left at just the right time, but I will definitely be going back to Thailand.
I have seen some terrible things travelling and I have seen the most amazing sights of my life. I have never met such happy people as those in South East Asia and I will never forget this trip.
I have a big thank you for Rachel and Rob for letting me join them half way through their trip and putting up with my smelly self. I've loved it J
