We're sitting in the shade on the verandah of a little bistro at the very pleasant port of Pont d'Ouche about 70 kms from where we started. I'm sipping a cold glass of Bourgogne Aligote and Wynn has a Stella Artois - most welcome in this 35+ degree heat. So far on our journey we've encountered great weather, just one thunderstorm with high winds.
Coming into port at Dijon found ourselves in the midst of a traditional town fete in Dijon, except it wasn't that traditional or at least the bloe up bouncy castles and boats weren't. Neither was the pop music blaring until all hours. Seemed to be a great family time though and the fireworks were great.
But the best experience so far has been cruising along the beautiful Burgundy canal. There are no ugly industrial sites at all, just columns of shady trees lining the banks, fields of wheat or mustard, interspersed with splashes of red poppies here and there. The villages, mostly old, are well loved with well-cared for gardens, lots of colorful flowers. The canal hasn't been that busy either so have had no trouble finding mooring. Have met some interesting people too.
But have to sign off now as another thunderstorm on the way, rain starting and the boat is open with the umbrella up.
Love from us both
Anne and Wynn

Mike and Liz Please tell it to stop raining, as we are on the Rhone heading north! It's placid at present, and like you we have 35+ degrees heat, so glorious. Post your blogs often so we know where you are. We are currently overnigting at L'Ardoise, heading to Viviers tomorrow. Hugs, Mike and Liz
