Dave 's BIG adventure!
The decision to travel to Melbourne, had really been the first travel decision i had made on the tour so far!
When i first departed was very much down to when i got my working visa, and when my passport came through, the date to leave Cairns was down to when my arm was fixed (and it's as good as new!) and the rest, i had really left down to Barry at Peterpans! So Melbourne was down to me! and it felt strange! but things had got on top of me in Sydney! and i hadn't slept at the hostel! and i think that was the main reason for that! but there's not point not being happy when you can do something about it! so i did!
Going to Melbourne had made me very anxious! more so than when i first went away! and i wasn't sure aboutaccommodation i knew i had two nights in a good hostel then i would have to fined another as the one i was stayingin's prices were going up to $50 a night! and that was just to much! so as i got on the Greyhound i knew the next two days would be all about trying to find some where to stay for the rest of my trip! (that wasn't too rat infested!!)
The Greyhound would be my last! as my ticket went from Cairns to Melbourne and my flight out is from Melbourne on th 31st! on the way down most of the bus drivers had been the most miserable and grumpy people i'd ever seen! with the exception of one! (who drove from Brisbane to Byron!) The driver on this last ride, had taken the time to give ever one seat numbers! and that was the first time i had seen that on the bus's which was fine! but he had sat all boys together and girls together! (i know it was a night bus but i'm not sure quite what he thought would be going on!) and it was a classic case of it looked good on paper! but in reality! all you had was married couples, boy & girl friends and just friends not aloud to sit next to each other for the next 12 hours! when every one complained the driver through a strop, and told every one, to just sort it out them self! he was "only trying to help!" (not sure how?) so chaos began but it didn't take to long though! it had always been, first up best dressed! and that's how it should stay! simples!
The 12hrs passed ok, quite quickly, i had got used to it now! And still not sure i was doing the right thing! (by this time i had gone 10 days with out a proper nights sleep!) in just a vest, shorts and flip flops! i started my walk to the hostel! and soon had to stop and buy a coffee and put more clothes on, as Melbourne was freezing!! I walked by one of the options for the next couple of weeks and to be honest i wasn't sure if it would still be standing by the Monday let alone the 31st! Had i really made the right decision i thought! But "every thing happens for a reason!" i truly believe it! (or though it was questionable right now!) 15mins later i got to the hostel! and it was like a hotel, so so clean! i'd not seen a hostel like it! just a shame i could only stay here for two nights! i had a bit of time to kill so i just chatted to the girl behind reception for a while! i told her i wanted a discount because of the weather! "i could of stayed at home if i wanted bitterly cold!" she laughed and told me that from the Monday it was going to warm up! i said yeah i suppose you have to pay 50 bucks for that as well! "not unless you get the weekly rate!" she replayed! "and what's that?" i said "$29!" your kidding me i thought! that was the same price as what i was paying in Sydney! only this place was a palace! The hostel is called URBAN CENTRAL and it's 334 city road! Melbourne!
So with in a second, Melbourne had become the best decision i'd made all tour! and as you can imagine the beds the were just like the rest of the hostel! amazing! and last night was one the best night sleeps i'd had in months! with the tennis starting tomorrow! the city is goind to be buzzing! and now in a beter frame of mind i cant wait!!!
