Dave 's BIG adventure!
As getting to Phuket was one of the worst travel experiences of my life! i wasn't in the best of moods! but after a good sleep i went down stairs and met Aee! we talk about the activity's on the add on, and when i was going to do them! 1st up was James Bond Island, the next day white water rafting and quad biking! then the next day i would, catch a boat to Phi Phi spend the night, then go to Maya Island! where The Beach was filmed! i would then spend 3 more nights there then travel back to Phuket to get a plane to Chian mia!
While talking about the plan, Aee suggested that i only go to Phi Phi for The Beach then travel back and stay the spare nights in Phuket! as Phi Phi was over priced and not actually that nice! so i altered the plan from the one i had done with Alan! and that's what i'd loved about travelling on my own, i could do what i wanted, when i wanted! but Aee was aware i was travelling on my own and invited me out in the evening! she and her friends where going out, and said i could join them! so i did! and it was a great night! Aee's brother in-law Mark was an Ozzie from Melbourne so we had a lot to talk about! We went out on the Banglar road! which was a lot more like what i thought the kosan road would be like! very colourful, loud and busy!! lady boys and ping pong show aplenty! everything most think about Thailand! sadly!
So with a slight head ache i got up at 7am to go to James Bond Island! it's should actually be called The Man With The Golden Gun Island! as it is his home in the self titled James Bond movie! so the trip started by getting on the boat and getting briefed on what the day had in store! but all could think about is the last time i was on a boat and that the fish oil coming from the kitchen was was making my feel real sick, i'd eaten lots for sea food at Aee's the night before! mixed with the alcohol it wasn't good but when we set off the breeze dealt with any smells from the kitchen!
It was going to take a few hours to get to J.B.I so it was broken up by stopping a few times to sea kayak in, around and through sea caves! i hadn't listened to this part so it was a nice surprise! in "The Beach" you couldn't get to it by boat! but in reality you could! we saw small beaches that you could only sea by swimming or a kayak! eachkayak got a guide who did the paddling showed you what to look at! i was paired up with a the only other person who was on there own an Thai girl who used to work in Richmond, weirdly! so she could translate any questions i had! and any info our guide had! once at the island we got on a long boat and i took us right in! I had never seen so many people in one place! in the brochure there's the one shot they use and to get it with out anyone in it was almost impossible! but it was good! i now want to watch the movie to see it in it's glory! from there it was one more cave then a chance to swim at a beach or play in the kayaks! i used my time best as i could and used the kayak as a bed and slept! i got woken up by my guide to see we were the only ones left on the beach! they had let me sleep as long as possible! so back to the boat and home! a very good day out! the evening was much like before partying with locals! Good Times!!!
Then it was on to adventure! in the form of white water rafting and quad biking! the day started by getting a taxi to meet the bus, then an hour bus trip out of the city! the reason for this is there is only one river in this part of Thailand! as we drove in over a bridge the guide said wow water's rough! i looked and saw only a little tiny tricklingstream, surrounded by many rock! we got to our camp! and got ready! lifted our rafts on to the........water, well when i say water, i mean rocks! with a trickling stream running though! there was about 20 rafts all doing the same! every one sitting in there rafts, with helmets, life jackets and paddles! and the guides laughing and saying how rough it was! we all felt really stupid and didn't really get the joke!
Then they explained, it was the dry season! so there wasn't enough water! so they close the dam up stream let the water build up and let it go twice a day! and that's why we were waiting! waiting for 11am because that's when the flood gates opened! a they did and the water came, picked the rafts up and we were off! amazing so much fun! the first corner was similar to the start of F1 every boat smashing into each other! brilliant! the quad biking was in the afternoon! it was ok! and great for beginners, but for me, it was slow and no where near the winter tracks ofHindhead G.C.
On the way home we stopped at monkey mountain! to see the, well......... the monkeys! just a quick stop! then home and out on the town again! love it!
