After my adventures in Halifax I hopped in my car and continued my road trip - headed to Lunenburg. Of course I stopped off at Peggy's Cove and Mahone Bay and what else can I say other than it was one of the most beautiful drives I had ever driven!! Just outside of Peggy's Cove I stopped at a roadside stand and had my first lobster roll - yum!
When I arrived in Lunenburg I went to the local information centre and they pointed me in the direction of a couple places to stay. I drove about 3 minutes down the road into Downtown Lunenburg, looked at a couple places and settled in at a cozy room in the Brigatine Inn. Then I went down to the marina with my notebook and I stared at the peaceful fishing boats while trying to catch up on some of my writing. Then dinner at the Salt Shaker Deli (lobster mac n cheese - mmmmm) and then back to my room for some more writing before bed!
Up early the next morning I loaded up my car, grabbed a coffee and head to Blue Rocks, a little village just outside of Lunenburg. My guidebook had given it a recommendation and since it was so close I decided to check it out. I remembered passing signs for it on my way into town so no need to look up directions; I will just retrace my steps. I'm pretty sure I remember which way I came from. But I do look up directions to Wolfville (my next suspected stop). Unfortunately, I'd already loaded up my pens so I had to commit the directions to memory. Good thing my mind works like a vault!
So off I went following signs to Mahone Bay, which was the last place I'd been the day before. I drove for a while occasionally seeing the odd Blue Rocks sign and ended up in a little village of about 6 houses and something that looked like an auto shop. I pulled up beside a man on the street who was checking his mailbox (okay - he was the only other person anywhere in sight!) and I asked him where I was. "Blue Rocks." was his reply. Well look at that - I made it. But now what? So I ask him, "Where is a good place to park and look around?" He looked very confused and said, "What exactly are you wanting to look at?" Good question - I didn't really read in much detail about what to do once I got here. Seeing that I looked just as confused as him, he suggested I take the next left and follow it around the water to the point where there were some old fishing houses. Great idea!
My first left looked more like a long narrow driveway than a road but what the hell - why would a random guy on the side of the right send me in the wrong direction? I followed the driveway/road along the water and enjoyed the beauty, stopping a couple times to snap some photos. The 'point' consisted of a small bay with 5 small fishing boats floating and 1 fisherman setting off. There were old fishing houses/huts near the docks. It was pure serenity. I got out of my car and sat on a rock with my coffee, notebook and not a care in the world.
