One thing I want to mention is that not only was I invited to attend Beth and Joe's beautiful wedding but I was also asked to write and read a poem for their ceremony. What an amazing compliment!
I had months to write the poem and I took exactly that long to write it. Immediately, I knew it had to be about love because that is what I felt in Beth and Joe. The act of writing a poem about love proved an interesting journey for me in itself. I had recently started exploring with my writing as a hobby but my content tended to veer toward the tragic love gone wrong direction. Beth didn't specify but I was pretty sure that this was not what she had in mind.
So after various directions and false starts, here is the poem that I yelled out to the ocean from the lifeguard chair under the full moon and then read for Beth and Joe in a beautifully decorated backyard surrounded by love.
To Beth and Joe
She will know love.
She will feel its warmth.
She will hear its song in her heart.
He will know love.
He will feel its strength.
He will hear its kind words in his soul.
She will know love.
She will feel its energy.
She will hear its sweet, sweet melody.
He will know love.
He will feel its strength.
He will hear its laughter everywhere.
They will know love.
They will hold it in their hearts
and hold each other in their arms
like long lost friends.
Always there for each other.
Surrounded by
love.
