Well, the past week or so since we left Cusco have been pretty hectic.
From Cusco we took a luxury bus to Nazca, where we took a light aircraft to look at the Nazca lines.
We both always wanted to go in a light aircraft so this was brilliant if not a little scary!! The plane was tiny and could only fit 6 people in it, take off was great fun, but once in the air it was unnervingly wobbley! The view was spectacular and we got to see quiet a few of the mysterious nazca lines. We have put the pictures on our page, but its a little bit like Magic Eye trying to make out what the lines represent.
Nazca as a town wasn't special, but we only stayed there one night before heading off to Lima.
In Lima, we found ourselves staying on the outskirts of Miraflores which is fairly touristy. We actually did very little in Lima, apart from walk around the markets and eat cake! Lima wasn't very inspiring, but gave us chance to have some home comforts (food other than rice and chicken!). We did have some amazing ceviche which is a raw fish salad, and it didn't make us ill!
Following Lima we headed to Huaraz where we visited a Chavin temple, which was a huge stone temple with a network of underground tunnels, pre dating Inca.
From Huaraz we continued our tour of Peruvian monuments and ruins and made our way to Trujillo where we did a tour of Moche and Chan Chan temples made entirely of mud bricks which have lasted 2000 years. They were impressive, nothing at all like we imagined they would be. The are South America's version of Egypt, only a bit more weather worn!
Our next town was Chiclayo where we visited the Sipan museum which was full of exacavated tombs and artefacts relating to what we saw in Trujillo. But again, we didn't stop long here, before making our way to Ecuador.
So, here we are, Guayaquil, Ecuador, our 6th and final country in South America! We are now in the final leg of our trip, hopefully, we should be catching a flight this week to the Galapagos to start an 8 day cruise. Booking this last tour has been a nightmare, we are still awaiting confirmation of our place, so until we get that, we're holding back our excitment.
Keep your fingers crossed for us!
