Sawatdee khrap! (or something like that)
Im in Bangkok at the moment. I arrived on Saturday after a 12 hour overnight train! Which was alot better than what I had expected. They had benchs which at night turned into bunk beds! I was in the bottom which had more room and a window which I was quite thankful for. They had a bar on the train too which played really loud, cheesy 80's music (agadoo anyone? me and hannah were the only ones who had heard of it!!!) and some Thai songs which basically ripping off western pop songs but singing different lyrics over the top! The americans taught us a really cool drinking game which I can't wait to play with you guys called Kings! It made the train ride much more exciting. Although this french guy who we were talking too was quite entertaining, he came into our like compartment and started shouting 'I have LSD in my beer!'. In the end we told him to f*** off though.
I had heard different things about Bangkok before I arrived, but mainly that it was abit of a s***hole. But so far that couldn't be futher from the truth. Well it does get abit smelly sometimes but where doesn't? Anyway we arrived at the start of the Thai New Year Festival, which also happens to be a Water Festival!!! I'm staying right by Khao San Road which is basically a backpacker mecca, so this is basically where the parties are happening. The streets by 1 oclock are filled with people with water guns and buckets having water fights and also this paste which they make with flour and wipe it all over your face and clothes! I have had to use my waterproof pouch as a wallet and there is just no point me taking my camera or phone out! It's like carnival day but a thousand times more fun. It probably wouldn't work in Britain because people would just end up fighting. But over here it is seen as a blessing, so you can spray anyone and they will laugh and smile, its a good atmosphere to have in a city. I haven't really been to see all the attractions yet but we went to the Wat Pho which had this giant buddha statue and we had a river boat tour of the city which was terrifying (the boat was really shallow and the waves were huge! and don't get me started on the weight inbalance issues on those things ha) But anyway I'm going to go exploring later today and tomorrow.
Sunday was the last day of the tour so we all went out and got drunk (but mainly wet!) and said our goodbyes. So its just me, Harry and Sono (one of the yanks). Me and Harry are off to Ko Phangan for the full moon party on Wednesday. I have decided to stay in Thailand for another two weeks, just cos it's so fun and cheap here! So I'm gonna have to rush round New Zealand, which I'm not to bothered about. I'm shall be incontact soon xxx
