Back!
So Sydney was awesome. The day inbetween buying the tickets for Hamlet and going to the play, we decided to do a little more exploring of the city. We have lunch in the gardens and then went to Chinatown. We had a look round some shops, but we were all too poor to actually buy anything. We had pretty good weather all the time we were there, although it wasn't as hot as the north of Australia. But soon enough me and Steph found ourselves walking into the Sydney Opera House to watch Hamlet. The theatre wasn't as big as I was expecting, but I don't think we were in the concert hall or something like that. The play itself was really good. The guy who played Hamlet was really good. For the first half me and Steph were separated because we got the last tickets they were individual tickets, however by a stroke of luck, the person next to Steph didn't turn up so I went down to the third row fo rthe second half. Steph was also scribbling down notes all the way! (she's doing an acting course at Uni in Septmeber) Afterwards we decided to be really posh and have a drink by the harbour (but it was only one) and then got the bus home. We met someone on the bus strangely enough who lived on the Channel Islands for a while and had been in Weymouth, he declared it loudly to the bus it was s*** ha.
The next day we were going to Blue Mountains but we were all tired of moving around and getting buses from the city and just wanted a lazy day in the campervan. So we stayed another night, did some food shopping and Chris and Robin went to the cinema. I think we all agreed that Sydney was one of our favourite cities on the whole trip. It such a cool city. Not only has it got beautiful scenery, but it's also modern and vibrant and bondi beach is half an hour away! I'm afraid it kicks London's ass!
The next day we started our 2 day trek down to Melbourne, our final stop, with brunch in Bondi Beach. We were supposed to meet up with Vicky, my friend from Weymouth, but when trying to contact her I got no reply :S So we had a look round anyway. It reminded me of a seaside town alot in England. But cos it was winter, there wasn't really much to do. We decided to take the inland route to Melbourne, which is shorter but not as well developed. However we did get to see some amazing views on the coast, wild kangaroo's in the fields and some interesting towns which clearly don't get many tourists at all. Other highlights including leaving one of chris's shoes at a petrol station and finding Dairy Milk Chocolate, a big block of it for $3 bargain!
We got to Melbourne late on the 24th and stayed in a campsite pretty far out. The plan originally was to stay in the campervan untill I left and hand it in. But we all wanted to just get rid of it as quick as possible. So the next day, after a lot of cleaning and discussion on how we were going to cover up a slight crack in the windscreen, we drove through the city center trying to find a hostel and the rental place. With some amazing luck, we checked into a hostel we got recommended by Cat who we met in Byron Bay and her friend Hannah, which was round the corner from the rental place. It was above an Irish bar and it was such a relaxed place! They even gave us a free pint at the bar as we checked in. After we got our beds, Me, Robin and Chris headed for the rental place to hand it back (we couldn't take Steph because having four people in our camper wasn't exactly legal). The guy looked round at it, and I'm practically wanting to throw up in fear, but all he said was that we needed to go to a car wash cos it wasn't clean enough. PHEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
After signing it off we all felt alot better. The rest of the day we met up with Cat and Hannah who were staying in another hostel which was owned by the same person. They showed us around the city and took us to this masisve mall place. We also went into this McDonalds which had real life birds flying around in the eating area! Crazy! It even had signs on the side of the wall saying 'Don't feed the birds'. That night we went to their hostel for a drink or 5. I had abit of goon, it was and will be the last time I ever drink that stuff, it's digusting. We headed for another bar afterwards called 'The Drunken Poet' and such was the state of certain members of the group that they weren't even allowed to buy a drink...in an Irish bar! However I can't really talk because after that my memory goes blank but I hear we went back to hostel, I went to bed whilst the others continued drinking and ended up throwing up or making out with eachother...disgusting behaviour!
The next day we took a look round Melbourne once again, it was my last day, and for the last 5 weeks I had been working myself up about the flight to Hawaii so inbetween predicting my own death due to a plane crash, I was trying to make sure I hadn't lost anymore stuff and catching up with emails etc. We ended up having a few drinks that night but I can't remember what happened it was so long ago. The next day I got up started to pack. As I was in the shower (steph in the other cubicule) the fire alarm starts to go off due to the steam! This would of been fine except nobody knew how to turn it off! So it kept going for half an hour and we woke everyone in the hostel up! It wasn't even our fault the window was open. So steph decided to get a duvet of all things to try to blow the steam in just a towel! She was literally jumping around throwing the duvet around! It was by far one of the funniest things I have ever seen. It made a funny ending to my stay in the hostel. I managed to figure out how to get the shuttle to the airport and to bus station just in time. Quickly said goodbye to Chris, Robin and Steph and headed off to Hawaii!
