We're actually in Auckland but we have more to tell you from Singapore before we give you our highlights if the biggest NZ city.
Our hotel in was the exotically named Aqueen jalel basar not far from little India and in a great position for exploring the city. The comfortable beds were very welcome after 14 hours on an airoplane. The rooms were clean and cosy, just enough room for us and our luggage.
Singapore is full of people eating in small street cafes called hawker stalls selling all kinds of Asian foods at very reasonable prices at all times of day. We had a marvellous thai curry for less than a pint of beer. Much of singapore smells of food but there aren't so many bars or cafes so our beer and coffee intake was limited.
We didn't see many insects but they saw Harriet who ended up with couple of stonking bites! Mike also observed that we hadn't seen any dogs and within a few minutes we did see a tiny terrier sporting red and white shoes.
One of the most annoying things we have seen this time on our travels are selfie sticks. At the Merlion at the waterfront we had to work hard not to be bashed around the head by enthusiastic tourists wanting to get picture of themselves in front of this notable attraction. It does make you wonder if they actually see anything as the photographers seem to spend most of their time with their back to the main sites.
All in all we had a great time in Singapore and would recommend it as an interesting city to visit.
