I tried to organize my hotel for when I returned from the Hilltribe Trek; as well as, my flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok but was unsuccessful since the wifi at the hotel was not working properly. So, I decided to ask Ian if he would be able to take care of it, so I would know where I was supposed to be after this tour.
I headed up to my room around 4 pm, asking the front desk clerk for the key that I left behind in case my roommate arrived. They informed me that the key was no longer there, so I headed up and knocked on the door. Unfortunately, my roommate was not there and didn't leave the key with the front desk. I had to get someone from the front desk to open up the room; which was great until I realized that the key is used to turn on the electricity. So I had to open up the blinds to get some light into the room. Thankfully, my roommate showed up half an hour later and I got to meet her and get to turn on the lights.
My roommates name is Alex and she is from the states but has been working in Australia for almost a year now as a nanny. Alex and I talked for an hour and a bit, until it was close to 6 pm and it was time to meet the rest of the group in the lobby of the hotel.
We meet our tour guide who used to be a monk and is from Chiang Mai. Then I met four other girls that are on the tour with us: Charlie, Jade, Megan, and Adele - all of whom are from England. Megan and Adele came together and are planning on travelling for another 3 months throughout Southeast Asia, then to Australia, and finally to Fiji. Jade is only on vacation for 6 days and is flying back home on the 5th of June. Charlie and Alex are also only staying for a short amount of time, but have a few extra days after the tour before they have to fly back home.
All together, there are only 6 of us and all girls. There was supposed to be another girl; however, we think she most likely cancelled or decided not to come. Unfortunately, I am the oldest person on the trip. All of the girls are between the ages of 20-23, but they all seem nice so it should be a good tour.
After our meeting with the tour guide, we talked for an hour before he took us to the Sunday market in Chiang Mai. It took us about 15 minutes to reach the market and the girls looked and bought some items. I resisted buying and looking, since I already have a fair amount of items and need to wait until I am closer to finishing my tours before I buy anything else.
I was disappointed by the fact that our guide did not take us out for dinner, since I was assuming that would be the case and decided to hold off on eating. So I was starving and it was already around 8 pm when we were out shopping. Thankfully, some of the other girls were also hungry so we decided to try and find a restaurant somewhere for us to sit down and eat. While we were walking in the market and looking for a restaurant we could hear and see lighting and thunder, and knew that it was going to start to rain soon. As soon as we reached a restaurant, it started to down pour, so we decided that that would be the restaurant we would stay at to eat.
I ordered chicken cashew with rice and a banana coconut fruit smoothie. My smoothie took the longest to make, as well as my food; which annoyed me since I was so hungry. The food overall wasn't anything special, but I was happy just to have something to eat.
Dinner finished around 10 pm, along with the rain and since the shops in the market were starting to close down, we decided to head back to the hotel. Once at the hotel we stayed up in the lobby for a bit just talking and checking our phones; since, wifi only seems to work in the lobby. I confirmed with Ian, if it was possible for him to book me the hotel and flight then went off to bed.
We leave the hotel at 9 am tomorrow to start the tour!
