Here we are looking out from Bellagio across Lake Como to...Paris...or is it Hollywood? We had a big day looking in and around some of the attractions on 'Th Strip'. It seems that wherever you want to go the path is through the casino of the property. All in all it is an homage to excess and questionable taste, but mixed in with some brilliance. Like the colored glass ceiling in the Bellagio hotel. And even the shoreline of our Lake Como was somewhat authentic with pine trees and olives, as I recall the real thing to actually have.
Of course the people watching is at
least as interesting as the physical surroundings. All sorts!
The reason for being at the Bellagio was tongi to a 'champagne reception' of the James T Beard Foundation. He's now dead, but was a doyen of American foodies. Bought the tickets from home. It was in a lakeside restaurant at lunch time. We saw the famous fountains up close (impressive, but we need to go at night too). Ate countless terrific oysters and had nice seafood finger foods (see other photo). But the 'champagne' wasn't! Only low class local bubbly, some even fruit flavoured. But a decent beer.
And in the evening we went to 'Raiding the Rock Vault', a show on the history of rock and roll. Band were all former members of bands, some of which we had even heard of. Like (and here should be a drum roll for Rebecca) Traci Gunns of Gunns 'n Roses. We
Knew about two thirds of the songs. Mind you, it was a misogynist history...probably like the industry itself.
And then, just to keep up the theme we had a late dinner in a chain restaurant owned by Vince Neil, a member of Motley Crüe. And there is a photo to prove it.
