Having left Koh Tao at 5am, we made the 13hr journey to Koh Phi Phi via ferry, coach and ferry. Our first impressions were that it was basically Ibiza or Ayia Napa crammed into a smaller space, with the highlight being a reggae bar where drunk tourists could unsuccessfully fight Thai boxers.
After recovering from our journey on the first day, we took a boat to the appropriately named Monkey Island, and then met up with some friends from home for a night out.
On the third day we left our hostel for a sleeper boat with 30 other people, and headed to Maya bay, where the film 'the beach' was filmed. The day/night basically consisted of snorkelling, a barbecue on the beach, group drinking games and a night time swim with glow in the dark plankton. We are only 2 weeks in but it is hard to see our visit to Maya bay being topped.
It was a windy night however and none of us got any sleep up on the boat's deck, so we were pretty exhausted as we got a ferry to Phuket.
Our time in Phuket has basically been a stopover, making the most of the nearby McDonalds and Thailand's equivalent of Waitrose. Today we are flying up to Chiang Mai, and I'll write again from there.
