Hello there!
After escaping the rain to update my blog and to feed my facebook addiction we thought we had been in the internet cafe long enough for the rain to have stopped. Wrong. Thus we legged it across the road to the nearest restaurant- an Irish Pub no less- and still emerged looking like drowned rats. However after noticing they had the Olympic closing ceremony on we watched intently for the London 2012 presentation. We were not disappointed. (David Beckham- say no more ;-) )
After food we randomly met 2 Amercian guys working for the peace core in romote tribal villages north of Chiang Mai and this older guy from an NGO. It was really interesting talking to them as they gave us a completely different perspective of Thailand and really challenged us on our trip and what we had learnt. Sounds abit deep but it was really refreshing to speak to people who had lived with the tribes for over 18 months, could speak Thai fluently and really understood the culture.
Lesson 27: Its not the places you go but the people you meet
Yesterday we travelled north to the border of Thailand to Chaing Rai to visit some more temples, ANOTHER market and general sight seeing. It was a very long day but really interesting and very different from the previous day. We went on a boat trip to the golden triangle where we got to see the borders of Burnmar, Loas and Thailand. We got to stop off in loas to see a local market- even cheaper than Thailand- hence the passport stamp! The last part of our day we visited the long neck tribe as well as the big ear tribe and the hat tribe. This was fascinating and can only be descibed by looking at the photos which you will have to wait for! All in all a very good day once again.
Today we have finsihed off some sightseeing in Chiang Mai and are heading back to Bangkok in a few hours so tomorrow we can fit in the tiger temple!
Lots of love
