Bonjour!
Lesson 22: It doesn't just rain in Thailand- it pours
We're currently sheltering in an internet cafe as 2 mins ago it was boiling hot even though it was about 6pm and now it is absolutely chucking it down!
WARNING: This is likely to be an epic blog in order to do our epic day justice :-)
Rewind 24 hours and 2 pants and I went to the night market to finally indulge in some shopping :-)
Lesson 23: Shopping in Chiang Mai is as dangerous as the electricity wires hanging 5 feet off the ground
Basically the amount of stalls/ shops / street sellers is unbelievable. Thus 'dangerous' shopping = trying to avoid buying the whole of thailand. However I'm pretty sure Jen and I came away with about half. (And if that wasn't enough we may have just been at the local arts and crafts market too ;-) ).
My name is Louise Wilkinson and I am a Thailand shopaholic
4 hours later Jen and I crashed ready for our day Trekking. Our guide 'Jimmy' (Frank's straight younger brother- refer back to phuket overnight train journey) took us to the south of Chiang Mai and lead the trek through one of the tribes and to an amazing waterfall. We got to swim in it which proved very eventful in relation to trying to stand up against the force of it and particularly challenging for Jen and her 'Barbs' (Kos girls ;-) ).
We then went elephant riding.
Lesson 24: Always offer to try something first
When asked who wanted to be first on the elephants like the cool school girls we are Jen and I raised our arms in the air and basically threw oursleves toward the elephant. As everyone else probably wanted to watch us get thrown off first they were happy for us to do it. Because of this we not only got the best keeper- as he was the only one that let us ride on the elephant's head (thus unaided- as well as the metal seats they attach in the middle that everyone was on) and we also got a mummy elephant so had baby 'Jenny' (I'm not even making that up!) tagging along with us. VERY cute. When baby Jenny got hungry she simply 'tap tapped' (even elephants know how to do that :-) ) and sucked on our legs with her truck- such a funny feeling!
Our keeper didn't even touch the elephant he simply lead it with his voice and this was not only amazing to watch but pretty scary when it was just us riding on it on our own! To be honest I could go on and on about it- defo one of the highlights of the whole trip.
Overall - INCREDIBLE
After the riding we went bamboo rafting.
Lesson 25: Bamboo rafting = White water rafting with 10 shoots of bamboo tied together with string and nothing to hold onto.
Needless to say we were soaked by the end of it.
All in all an amazing day and has made me even more excited for tomorrow's adventure.
Hugs and Kisses xxxx
