Hey Boys and Girls!
After an hour flight delay because 'a susipicous man had to be removed from the plane', a mini scare when I thought I'd lost my onward plane ticket (making the duty manager try and track it down before finding it in my hand luggage- no surprises there then) and a VERY long film intensive 10 hour flight I eventually arrived with my house of a rucksack in Sir Lanka! Landed about 7:15am local time and after only getting about 2 hours sleep because the flight was technically in my afternoon/ early evening time I attempted to find a taxi to my hotel. Was jumped on by Mohan- a travel guide who then proceeded to try and sell me the world and his wife and eventually got away with just a taxi ride to my hotel about 90 mins away.
Lesson number one- Sir Lankan roads are effectively a licensed racetrack.
Nearly got squashed by about 20 buses, was dodging in and out of hundreds of three wheeling motorbikes(-don't ask) and narrowly missed knocking down a few men on bikes holding an umbrella with one hand and trying to steer with the other.
Thats right-.....I arrived and it rained. If I didn't need to sleep so much- and wouldn't have wanted to sunbathe even if you'd have paid me- I'd have cried lol. Anyway after arriving at my hotel and literately falling into a comar I woke up to sun :-)
Met my 'landlord' (and his seven- huge -dogs) and he has since catered to my every need including driving me around and cooking me dinner :-) As I'm on my lonesome he has agreed to be my personal tour guide as well-bit of a bonus considering I haven't got a clue what I'm doing lol, starting with a trip to the south coast tomorrow to see the tourist beaches and a trip on Friday to the elephant orphanage and Kanya.
Anyways if I've bored you already the synopsis is that I've arrived, I'm fine and my landlord has meatloaf playing and I heard Cher in the supermarket so effectively I'm time travelling.
Big Hugs and Kisses
Louise xx
