CHIANG MAI
Chiang Mai was reached in the evening after another full day spent on busses. The travel sickness took hold early on this day and after a good 10 hours of wanting to throw up and only managing to consume a 7Eleven version of a Pot Noodle I wasn't in the best of moods and unfortunately the decidedly low spirits would carry over and mar the first day in the city ("Stupid sodding place, it'as just full of friggin temples. And why do people keep trying to sell me s***e I don't want? Retards).
Thankfully the rest of the time in Chiang Mai was pretty ace. I won't bore you with the ins & outs of wandering around town for 4 days so here are the highlights:
>> Shopping @ the night bazaar
Well, basically I was only window shopping but everyone else was shopping - lots of it! If only I had a house to fill with tacky shiny things I don't need & a wardrobe to put clothes in! At least I can barter well for stufff though - even now I still object to paying full price for things in shops!
>> Wat Doi Suthep
Not really a highlight, l but it's the only place I recognise from Lucy's Thailand pictures!
>> Chiang Mai Zoo
Again, not the best owing to the dubious quality of care bestowed upon the animals, but it was still nice to have a potter around. The best bit (and this is fully open to debate between group members) was the Adventure Ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, it doesn't really warrant any exclamation marks but it was just sooooooo bad that it was actually quite hilarious!
>> Getting our stomp on
Ok, Chiang Mai's nightlife isn't great but we had a laugh in the bars (esp. when Emily proceeded to go behind the bar and get her own drink from the fridge as there were bowls of peanuts everywhere), and Bubbles Nightclub did have a trancey half hour to save our souls from the funky house.
Spicey nightclub, however, left a lot to be desired, especially when visiting the toilet and instead of having to escape the illegal immigrant selling chewing gum or trying to dry your hands for you, you were involuntarilly subjected to a debilitating full body massage whilst trying to figure out the soap dispenser.
>> Thai massage & foot massage
Both well worth the money & carried out in reputable establishments with no 'happy endings'!
>> Visit to Pizza Hut - Whoo!
Ok, you may be alittle confused by this one, but I tell thee in all honesty that I could actually feel my body leeching out the nutrients from that salad bar. (NB. Everyone knows the trick about doubling the size of the bowl by using iceberg lettuce leaves to expand the edges - right? Silly Allan, just you wait til I speak to your parents)
>> Starbucks (4 times)
Shameful & wrong I know. But, see above re. Pizza Hut & then don't ever try to tell me that the grande latte & the ham & cheese croissant with a lettuce leaf & a slice of tomato wasn't good!
