Hi!!
Today we went to the Great Wall of China!!!
Check out the pictures but it really doesnt do it justice. It was absulutely increddible. We travelled to the bus station and met a guy called Mr Liang who drove Elle, are friends an english couple Carl and Alex, Adam who is from the Lake District and Greg our new favourite chinky friend as we call him ( Actually he is half Japanese but from Oz) and likes Jam. (Greg says, "jam jam jam jam jam jam") because he watches too much Black Books. Mr Liang had no leg hair so i checked Gregs. He has leg hair.
We walked up a mountain of steep steps to get to the wall and had no water with us so nearly died! It was about 33 degrees today and the great wall isnt exactly a leasurely stroll. In fact i think it was the most physically demanding thing we have ever done! The part of the wall we went to was called Jingshanling. It was a remote quiet old part of the wall and some of it was pretty crumbly which made for some fairly tretcherous walking especially as there was a mountainous drop down either side. eek!
Two mongolian farmer ladies helped us up and down the really steep bits and fanned us when we stopped so i bought an "I walked the Great Wall" t-shirt from one of them.
Took some great photos. Really happy with the camera i bought.
Went to a mexican resteraunt with the guys from the wall for dinner which was lovely and Carl tried out some new chinese words to the waitresses. They didnt have a clue what he ws saying. Chinese is an impossible language. I give up. I can say Hello, Thankyou and bill, please! Thats about it.
My feet are in bits so i strapped them up with tape plasters and blister plasters for the walk which wasnt too bad. Hurting now though! And they are pretty weepy! yum :)
Sorted out train tickets to get us to Pingyao, Xian and Chengdu and booked our hostels.
Tomorrow we are going to the Summer Palace and to pick up my shirts from the tailor then on to a 12 hour train ride to Pingyao.
The dead ducks i heard being killed are now strung up in the butchers on the ground floor of the hostel.
Will be really sad to leave the good friends we have made here but maybe will see them again on our travels, who knows. Enjoying a few beers in the hostel with them tonight. Making the most of 50p big bottles of beer!!
Love Sarah and Elle
