Our day started with:
3 rooms sleeping in late,
2 of our alarms not working,
1 frustrated tour guide.
Luckily, once on the bus, a little sleep and resting soothed everyones nerves for the rest of the morning. As more and more quaint country houses zoomed by, we knew we were approaching Giverny, Claude Monet's house and gardens. As we stepped off the bus, the smells of the country side reminded us of home (mainly the smell of cow poop). We stepped through the gates and in to the gardens, the sheer amounts of fresh, vibrant flowers filled us with awe. We were able to walk across the famous Japanese bridge, which was in Monet's most famous painting. The shear artistry of the gardens filled Aedan and he decided to sketch a scene of the bridge. Ethan followed the photography side of art and took over 300 pictures of the flowers and chickens. (Aedan said, " wow Ethan those could have been taken by a professional!"[ see Photo Albums for this blog for the sketch and 5 photos from Ethan]). After Giverny we got on the bus and drove to a French shopping mall for lunch. A two hour bus ride then led us to Omaha beach. The somber atmosphere could be felt as soon as we stepped off the bus and it became more emotional as the stop went on. The climax was seeing the 9,000+ graves of soldiers, many whom were nameless. Luckily the group became more joyous as we headed over to Pointe du Hoc to discover the Germain bunkers. After playing in the bunkers, we headed out on a fun bus ride to St. Malo where our beautiful hotel is located. We enjoyed a delicious dinner and played cards until it was time to go to bed. Hopefully tomorrow's morning will have:
0 rooms sleeping in late,
All of our alarms working,
1 jolly tour guide
AND crepes!
