Today was a busy but interesting day! We started off with the palace of Versailles. We took a quick group picture in front of the gates, then headed in where we split up to explore the palace on our own. There were many quirky and modern pieces of art scattered throughout the palace; for example, a shoe made out of pots and pans, and a pink feathered/bedazzled helicopter. The rooms were exquisite, with gold trimming, marble pillars and stone busts everywhere. Perhaps the most interesting room in the palace was the hall of mirrors (which is exactly what you think it is). Some of the mirrors opened up to reveal even more rooms.
After we finished touring Versailles, we hopped on the metro to go visit the Musee D'Orsay. Many impressionist paintings are housed there from Degas to Monet. We then had some free time to explore Paris on our own. Our group chose to walk and shop down the Champs-Élysées. We grabbed lunch at a small creperie, and we found that Nutella and bananas was a popular choice among us. Unfortunately, it then became cold and rainy for the rest of the night. Despite the rain, we travelled to the Sacré Coeur on Montmartre. Due to the unpleasent weather, we wanted to find a restaurant ASAP! Our group found a quaint Italian restaurant in the village. We were greeted by an adorable older man and an empty room. The group (except for Amanda, the vegetarian), started the meal off with escargot, which was surprisingly delicious. The entrees were delicious, but our table talk was definitely the highlight of the meal. We also stopped for desserts which consisted of cheese and crepes.
Finding a bathroom in Paris is quite a challenge, so we were all relieved to be back at the hotel after a tiring day!
