We weren't impressed by Ramsgate and I don't think we'll be hurrying back. Electricity on pontoons broken, poor facilities, grotty town, unhelpful marina staff.
Also, the F word was prominent in the weather forecasts (as in fog). It appeared to be a tad less risky going today....although the coastguard actually commented to us "you do know there's fog forecast?"....yes but no but...
So we decided to cut our losses and postpone the planned lay day.. It meant yet another early start because of the tides so, with quivering lips, we set our alarms for 04:45. Bright, but not yet breezy, we said goodbye to Ramsgate at 05:30 and set off north initially, ticking off another headland at North Foreland.
Roger was wearing his croc(odile)s which worked a treat by keeping other scary creatures at bay as we set off into the unknown of the Thames Estuary. Wind farms galore, but we kept clear, dodged the sandbanks and avoided any big ship daring to come near Roger's reptilian footwear.
As we entered Harwich/Felixstowe harbour we were admiring the view behind and to port, when a rather large container vessel said "BOO!"
Once we had changed our underpants, we went a short way up river and moored up at the Suffolk Yacht Harbour. Smashing.
Off up the River to Ipswich tomorrow, wow we nearly dun it!
