No lay in yet again today, as our hosts have organised a full days' excursion for us all and here's us all thinking that "Night Safari Trip" meant we weren't going out until night time, but how wrong we were. Bus collecting us at 8am, oh joy !!
Stop 1 - Bird Garden ….. pretty parrots and other flying things. A flying show which everyone enjoyed apart from Rose, who is scared of birds. Rose wasn't sure if the others actually enjoyed the show or watching her ducking and diving from the swooping birds.
Stop 2 - Duty Free Shopping in the most expensive shopping arcade EVER, nobody bought anything but the toilets and escalators were outstanding. Group decision, got to Starbucks for a coffee (to waste time) where the heavens opened and the thunder roared, group gathered back for the allotted time but there was 5 minutes to spare and Shane and Jackie dared each other to jump on the four storey escalator, oops a daisy, actually 5 minutes goes quickly and they had to run around 4 floors to reach the ground floor - well someone has to be the last on the bus, as we are all mature adults we hogged the back of the coach as the people in the front were very quiet and placid and we certainly weren't either of these. We went for our prearranged meal and the drink on the table was water, the following conversation occured:- Diane - This water tastes earthy. Paul - What do you mean earthy ?, Diane - It tastes like dirt, Paul - Do you eat dirt often?, this had us all in bouts of laughter.
Stop 3 - This should have been the Botanical Gardens, but due to the torrential rain, we went to Plan B, a quick look at the Merlion. As we had all seen the Merlion previously, it didn't hold as much enthusiasm as expected, not like watching a BIG BIG lizard eat a little baby lizard head first.
Stop 4 - The wishing fountain, the tradition is to walk around it 3 times and make a wish, but again being adults and there being puddles from the downpour, lots of frolics ensued as we were all trying to wet each other as much as possible. Shane and Gary decided that it would be a good idea to run around the fountain rather then walk, neither realising just how far it was around it and neither wanting to give in, surfice to say they were both a little out of breath and moist at the finish. We then had another meal and back on the bus for the Night Safari.
At the Night Safari park, we watched a show, where Shane was truly into audience participation, clapping and shouting from the back row. We all got onto the safari trams and proceeded to look at the wild animals, it was REALLY dark and not all of us could spot them as easily as some of the others, so many saw the tree branches and a possible sighting of a pair of ears ! How excited can a group of people get over spotting a pair of ears, also the shouts of "over there ", "Where" ?, "there" ! normally spotting it after we'd passed by. Giddy excitement by all as the HUGE tonnage of an elephant, came running towards the trams, probably the most exciting part of the night.
Would have been rude not to help the local economy by not buying a beer from the location, the tour guide who we named Singapore Nick could only put 2 words together before laughing at his own jokes, this became the standing joke and we all laughed before his punchline - noise from the back of the bus was like a school trip of kids.
Do we really need to say where we went next ?? Yep our hotel bar and then to bed but this was already the next day.
