Day 5 in Krakow, and it's still bloody brilliant. I moved hostels after 2 nights as I hadn't booked and they ran out of room. Found a place I'd heard about called Tutti Frutti. It's bang in the middle of town, and it's great. Best hostel so far easily. Last night sat round in the common room, about 20 of us. Playing a card drinking game called presidents and a*******s... lovely name, easy game. At about 11, one of the hostel staff came to show us a few good local clubs. So we all headed out, pretty well oiled after a long start and playing cards. Great night, cool crowd.... got up today, late-ish after another late-ish finsh...
Today I decided finally to go to Auschwitz. Caught a bus and got into a tour. One of the most full-on ways to spend A few hours. Absolutely mind blowing.... The stuff that went on is completely beyond belief. So I did the tour of the first camp, the gas chamber etc, Then went to a bigger camp called Birkanou. Birkanou was purpose-built after Auschwitz 1, purpose built for killing. Built over 400 acres, with electric razor wire and wood cabins almost as far as you can see. The things the SS did, the conditions, although they are there to see, are unimaginable. There are photos of the SS standing in front of people being hung, grinning for the camera... the same in front of mass graves. Completely scary the way everything happened. So yes, pretty blown away by it all, and now I'm tired, and considering a night in after 4 consecutive nights out. Then again, Krakow never sleeps, and there is some great music about. We will see...
