OK... day 3 in Budapest. I arrived from Krakow on tuesday morning after taking the notorious night train... Apparently, many people have been gassed in their compartments and had there possesions taken. They say the Krakow train is the worst, and I heard of 3 people who had lost everything on the way to Krakow.
So when I decided to come to Budapest, and take the night train, I was quite wary. When I boarded at 22:30, I found myself a compartment with 2 big polish blokes, who wouldn't have looked out of place wearing leather jackets and riding harley davidsons. I figured that if anyone wasn't going to be robbed, it was these blokes. They were very friendly, spoke perfet English, and asked me about Kangaroos, Wombats and Steve Irwin long into the night. Because of constant Interruptions and not reaching the border, I didn't begin to sleep untill about 5:00. I was woken upat 6:30 on the Hungarian/Slovak border for a passport check. So I gave up on sleep and watched the scenery. We went passed fields and fields of sunflowers. Thousands of them. Arrived in Budapest at about 9:30 that morning, and walked to my first hostel choice. Got my bed, had a shower and hit the town. Walked around for most of the day, then found a big bath complex (of which there are many in Budapest) and pickled myself in the different temperature thermal waters. The coldest was -20 degrees, the hottest 38 degrees. Was there for a good 2 hours, had a sauna and left. Feeling immensely relaxed, I had an early dinner and was in bed by 21:30. Got up yesterday, and walked over to the Buda side of the river. Budapest is divided in 2 sides of the river... Buda, and Pest. Simple. So I walked up to the castle and sussed out the view, had a coffee and sent some gloating picture messages home. The rest of the day I walked up and down the city checking it out. I have been taking it easy since the huge party that was Krakow, and not dinking or clubbing. Sat in the common room of my hostel last night till about midnight and went to bed. I'm going to go to a few museums today, and tonight, I will probably hit a club, as Budapest is well known for it's clubs and it would be a shame to leave without trying one out. Krakow still is probably number one on my list, the people, hostels, cafes, clubs. Not sure where I'm heading next but tonight will be my last night here, and I aim to be in Croatia within a week.
