We flew from BH to Sao Paulo to visit Molly's brazilian exchange cousin Gabi. She lived with Molly's aunt uncle and cousins in Whitehall, WI for a year during high school. Now she is graduated from school in fashion and starting a clothing/accessory company. It was so cool to see her work and that of her family, entrepreneurs all.
They live in a "smaller" city (500,000 people) outside Sao Paulo, Mogi das Cruzes. We had a great time with the family, group breakfasts, lunches, afternoon coffee time, and dinner. We ate delicious food the whole time, at home and at restaurants. We went to a Churrasceria, grill house. There is a salad and side dish buffet that you can visit anytime. But if it's meat you want you just sit and people come around with large pieces of meat on skewers that they will take slices off for you. Sooo good. We didn't try the chicken hearts, but they were a local favorite. There was also a dessert cart walking around. All in all an absolutely delicious meal, one of many.
During our stay in Mogi we went on a beautiful mountain bike ride and ended at a small town with a small yoga retreat/cafe/art center. Really cool :)
We spent a few days on the beach an hour away from their house, it is winter in Brazil but it is hard to remember that with the hot sun, the palm trees swaying, the surfing competitions, the fresh coconuts to drink and eat... Quite a lovely time :)
During our visit we were sending updates and photos to Nancy, Gary, Kasey, and Samantha the whole time, fun to share and experience.
We are very excited to visit the family again in the future :) or hopefully we convinced them to come check out our area of the US, maybe for a Packer/Badger game and a bit of kayaking on the great lakes ;)
