Where's Suzie?
Hi, this is just gonna be a quickie as it's lovely and sunny outside and I feel the need to sunbathe. Arrived in Port Macquarie a couple of days ago. Staying at the Sundowner camp site in a dorm cabin. The place is really clean and newly decorated and it's a welcome break from busy Sydney. Yesterday I went to the Sea Acres rainforests and learnt all about trees and flying foxes (saw a huge lizard thing too which I was really chuffed about til the guy said they're really common over here). Came back to my cabin and got chatting to a few other backpackers who are pretty much doing the same thing as me, either going up or down the east coast. Exchanged a few bits of advice then I went off to the Koala hospital which is just a walk away from the camp site. This was really good as they've rescued Koalas from bush fires and road accidents and you can learn about their stories. Walked back, got a chicken burger to help me on my way and fell asleep in my dorm for a bit (not used to all this walking). When I woke up I pottered about for a bit and chatted to some of the others, an english guy called Jim, a dutch girl and german guy. Myself, Jim and the dutch girl went for a midnight trek along the coast around the bays and up over some of the walkways. It was really dark and you could see the stars really well (orion is up-side-down here!). Trekked quite a long way, had a paddle and met some crazy english blokes who were riding bicycles into the sea? Was tempted to go for a swim but the sea looked in little rough for me (coward). Today I've just been catching up on laundry and organising the next bit of my trip to Coffs Harbour. There's a good chance I'll bump into the others again at some point up the coast. Bye for now and enjoy the little picce of the Koala xxx
