HUAREZ
Again not the prettiest town we`ve visited, but this stop isnt about the town, its about the beautiful Cordillera Blanco National Park. We are surrounded here by snow capped mountains and volcano`s, perfect for a spot of mountain biking.....apparently. U`d think we`d have learnt by now that nothing here is ever quite as easy as it seems. Firstly we piled into a minibus with the locals, 20 of us in total with the bikes on the roof. That was just to get to the base. Next we had to fit 4 people and 4 bikes into one taxi, for an hours drive. It was hysterical.
We managed, in our best Spanglish to find out that the journey we were told would take 4 hrs, was actually gona take more like 7. We got out of the taxi before the summit instead at a stunning turquoise lagoon. The colour was amazing. We had some lunch then began the descent. It was downhill all the way and off-road, my hands were in so much pain from the constant braking. The track was so bumpy our bums were killing. To top it off we kept getting chased by groups of viscious dogs biting at our ankles, which all in all rather took the fun out of the day. Beautiful scenery tho!
MANCORA
Our final stop in Peru and a chance to relax and unwind on a beautifiul beach. I love this town, could stay here for longer. The first proper beach town we`ve been to. Loads of wooden surf shacks and bars. Really friendly people, great vibe and to top it off, beautiful weather. We`re camping again, really close to the beach, surrounded by palm trees and hammocks. Feeling the vibe, we booked a surfing lesson. No wetsuits here, even tho the sea is definately no warmer that the UK! And no foamboards either, straight onto the real deal, which hurt far more. I was hiddeous, wont be giving up the day job just yet......well I guess I already have! Great fun tho. The next day my knees were so bruised, it was a giveaway to where i spent most of my time. Spent the whole day on the beach, in and out of the perfectly clear sea. Will be sorry to leave here tomorrow, but excited at the prospects of Ecuador.
