Gal's Exploits
Ok so arrived in Cambodia a couple of days ago and this place is nuts. First of all I'll take you through the journey here. I got picked up from Koh Chang an hour late and almost missed the boat across to the other side. The trip through Thailand was ok but upon getting to the border in Cambodia after changing onto about 4 different buses things started to go a little crazy. The first people we saw were a load of glue sniffered then when we were finally ushered onto the correct bus the tour person realised it was over booked some omeone ended up sitting on the floor. Not so bad you might think but then we were told that it was a 6 hour jouney to go 150km due to the state of the road (apparently Thai Airways are paying the Cambodian Government not to fix it). Anyway we proceeded to drive down what can only be described as a dirt track with loads of holes in it at about 25 miles an hour with everyone getting smashed all over the place as the minibus drove over the holes. Then after about 3 hours our kamikaze driver veers to the side and we ended up in a ditch in the side of the road. Everyone had to get out so the bus didn't topple and we had to stop a passing lorry to pull us out. They tried using what, in effect, was a piece of string which proceeded to snap twice before realising rope would be a better idea. Then we all trudged back in after standing around for an hour on a muddy track and go smashed around again for another 4 hours (by which time it was dark) before arriving.
Siem Reap is a nice little town and have been visiting the temples for the last two days which are pretty breathtaking. Went to one where Tomb Raider was filmed so I licked a few walls just in case Angelina had touched them. We also ended up in a crazy Cambodian Disco last night which was quite an experience and lots of fun. The sign outside had a picture of a camera with a cross through it, flip-flops with a cross through it and also a gun with a cross through it so it was a good job I'd left the bazooka at home. Upon entering with our extemely nice and helpful tuk-tuk driver we were ushered into a nice VIP area and instead of being offered drinks were presented with a couple of girls (which we politely refused before you ask). We got a bit merry and headed for the dance floor and jumped around with the locals for about half an hour to incredibly fast music, then the DJ shifted into playing slow songs for while (and all the cambodians started hugging), before reverting to hip-hop, then back to dance music (the same as he played earlier). The Dj repeated this shift in music about 3 times during the night and played the same songs with every shift. Extremely amusing but was a great night nonetheless. Not too sure how long I'll be staying in Siem Reap as I may go and visit the Tuk-Tuk mans family for a day.
