We were all very sad to leave the islands but the next stop on the travels was Taman Negara- a very old jungle! It was a bit of a mission to get there as we first had a long train journey and then a bus before we had to get a 3 hour boat up the river into the jungle itself. The boats were not what you would call modern- they were wide enough for 2 people to sit down net to eachother (on the floor as they were not stable enough to be standing up in) and were fairly long. We set off in the lovely sunshine admiring to views. After 20 mins or so the first incident happened- we got beached on a sand bank that ran down the middle of the river. At first I thought the guy was joking but he wanted us to get out and push and seen as Leo and I were at the front of the boat we obliged and got wet shorts (not a problem as the sun would dry them off). Unfortunately the beaching became a regular occurance and we werent so keen on getting out when it started raining as well! The engine on our boat then broke and we had to wait for another boat to come and get us! All in all a rather eventful 5 1/2 hours!
We stayed in a very basic 3 1/2 walled shack (the mozzy nets were very welcomed by those who didnt have their own!). We then went out for dinner and met up with Charlotte and Rich who we had been chatting to on the boat- our group was now 6 (me, Leo, Nad and Emma who we stayed with on the islands and now Charlotte and Rich). We got up early to following day to go up into the jungle where we did the canopy walk, walked about exploring and did a bit of swimming- all the time trying to avoid the leaches! After dinner we started our journey to Kuala Lumpur on the night train.
The first day we wondered about and got an idea of what the city was like and booked ourselves in for a lunck up the KL tower in the revolving restaurant then went to check out the Patronas towers- there is a cinema under the towers so we decided to go see Inception which was really good then we all headed out for dinner.
The next couple of days I imagine will be filled with the usual tourist things to do in Kuala Lumpur and perhaps a cheeky bit of shopping in China town!
