Right, this wont be too long as we are on the Perhentian islands at the moment and like everything else on the island the internet is expensive!
My last blog concluded with the trip back to Thailand from Cambodia. Once we arrived back in Bangkok we were reminded of the day of the week (Sunday) as the market was in town!! Im sure Leos eyes rolled a bit as yes I was going to drag him around another market! It was really good though and I picked a few bits and bobs up (the lucky few of you may get to enjoy the fruits of my labor when I return). Apart from that we didn't do too much as Bangkok was mostly just a stop on our way South to the islands.
The first island we stopped at was Koh Tao- famous for its diving. I decided that I would give diving a go and ended up getting my Padi Open Water! The island was lovely and had a good night life although we didnt sample much of it due to early morning dives (6.30 start!!). I liked Koh Tao but seen as it was Friday the 13th while we were there it couldnt all go smoothly! I ended up getting the money I was going to pay for my diving with stolen (about 250squid!)- a very frustrating story of inactive police and 'missing' CCTV footage- but thats for another time.. Then after suffering a week or so with a really bad pain in my back went to the docs and it turned out I had an abscess on the bottom of my spine (this has not all been treated though and I feel fine).
After Koh Tao we headed to Koh Phangan which is famous for the full moon parties. We didnt get there at the right time for a full moon party on the beach so went to a half moon- it was awesome. Set in the jungle with big dance stages and fire poi and huge great coloued shapes of material hanging from what looked like the sky it was a great night with Sam, Jess and Beth who we had earlier made frienbds with while exchanging UV paint colours, to top it all off the while place was covered in UV light so the UV body paint we had covered ourselves with in crazy patterns glowed all night! The night ended about 6am and leo and I were back at the bar at 9.30 the next morning- mainly as we were drinking to put of the inevitable hang over! We then spent the rest of the time on the island chilling by the pool and on the beach and going out for dinner with Sam, Beth and Jess and watching the fire poi that went on on the beach every night!
As we spent too much time relaxing on Koh Phangan we had to miss out Koh Samui- it was nice to spend a bit of time in one place though and was even better that we met people to hang about with.
When we did eventually leave we headed to Malaysia for the perhentian islands. On the bus on the way there we met Nad and Emma and we have been sharing a room with them since. The islands are just amazing (Google them if you want to be very jealous). They are like something out of a film! We have explored the island a bit and been over to other beaches and Leo and I climbed round the bay on the rocks and got some wonderful views before swimming back. Today we did a snorkeling trip to different places round the islands and we saw rays and sea turtles and loads of different types of fish- it was beautiful!
Tomorrow we are moving on with Nad and Emma to Taman Negara where there is a 130 million year old jungle so we will be going on a few jungle treks before going to Kuala Lumpur then Singapore for the flight home!
