Day 50 today.
We arrived in Santa Cruz yesterday but first a paragraph on our short stay in San Luis Obispo.
Obispo is a college town but is also quite small and quiet. We decided to hit the town and ended up getting quite drunk. When we started out at about 8 it was dead but by 11 the place was booming. Our choice of drinking establishment was a place bar called Mothers Tavern. They had karoake going and Eddie wanted to get up and sing. The song for the trip is "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey so when we came across it in the selection book I could harldy turn down the opportunity. When we got on stage and the song started the crowd cheered but seemed quite dissapointed when they realised we couldn't sing. We headed back to the hostel after karoake and discovered we had to enter via the back door which we had some trouble locating but came across eventually. We walked in and discovered two guys watching tv in what we thought was the hostel sitting room. They gave us a funny look and one said "Can I help you guys?" Eddie told him we were looking for our room to which he responded "Well it isn't here". It was at this point we realised we had walkjed into somebodies house. A quick escape spared us to much embarresment, luckily they seemed to be college students otherswise we might have been in a wee bit of trouble.
Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz is the setting for the movie The Lost Boys and I have wanted to come here since I watched the classic movie as a kid. In the movie it is known as Santa Carla but it is pretty much the same place. Unfortunatly the boardwalk concerts are on the weekend. Quite a hippy, leftie beach town. We headed to the famous boardwalk on our first day which has a rollercoaster and carousel which are national landmarks. However the whole boardwalk was being used for some University gig and was closed of to the public. We bought a six pack and had an early night. Seeing as it is day 50 today we are going to head out and make a night of it. Hit the boardwalk and drink a little. Probably hit the ebach during the day. We have just booked two days in San Francisco and arrive there tomorrow, might add another day on, we will see.
