After heading back to Phuket, we spent a night back in d'feel hostel in Patong, before moving to a luxury hotel for 5 nights courtesy of josh's friend Ben's lovely parents. It was particularly good as josh had his skype interview whilst here, so was good wifi and a relaxing location to prepare. Whilst revising hard, tom was able to relax to the max, making full use of the stunning swimming pool, beach and gym! Having our own kitchen, we cooked our own food all week.. and it made us realise how much we actually miss cooking our own food!
So Thailand came under martial law! Just our luck! Curfew now imposed, followed shortly by a military coup! The 16th in 70years or something? Have to be inside by 10pm every night! Every tv channel is now shut down and only army broadcasting with eerie music is now playing!
23/05 - 26/05
After leaving Laguna Phuket, our fantastic resort, we decided to head to the island of Koh Phi Phi. After a short ferry, we came across one of the best looking islands we have ever seen. Found a cheap crap hostel to stay in named 'rock backpackers'- ironic because the beds might aswell have been made out of the stuff.. they were solid! Spent one day Exploring the island, checking out the beaches and amazing viewpoint, followed the next day by a day boat trip around the islands. We first did some snorkelling, and then chugged over to an uninhabited island called bamboo island- with possibly the most picturesque beach ever! After cruising round koh phi phi, the boat ambled across a short stretch of water to Koh Phi Phi Leh, the adjacent island. It was like something out of a film- literally, as we moved into maya bay, which is where the film 'the beach' was filmed. After breaking down on the beach and having to borrow another boats battery to get us going again, we spent another half an hour snorkelling, followed by a quick trip to an amazing inlet, in which we found another boat full of tourists stranded! Without stopping our boat (as we didnt have a battery to start it again), we managed to lassoo the other boat and tow it all the way back to Koh Phi Phi. As you can tell these longtail boats are really reliable! Spent the evening checking out the subdued nightlife (curfew), and bumped into some lads we'd met in vietnam. Watched loads more people get burnt by fire show skipping ropes. Word of advice: just dont do it. So many people we met had serious burns from them.
After all the excitement from Phuket, Patong and Phi Phi (pronounced P P) we headed off in search of Ko Lanta for some R&R.

We found a little resort on Ko Lanta, the type that is really expensive through the busy months and dirty cheap now (lucky for us). The little bamboo shack we rented out came complete with access to the pool and a good restaurant...although we got eaten alive. Hired mopeds today and toured the entire island! We were rewarded with fantastic views and some great roads to cruise around!

Left the island today and blasted across to Krabi town via a few car ferries. The town is a bit of a transport hub for the surrounding beaches, although its quite chilled judt walking around by the river and there is superb street food here.
29/05
Up early and jumped on a local bus to Ao Nang, a very touristy but absolutely gorgeous beach resort just south of Krabi town. The hostel we're in here is one of our favourites, its really social and we met a great group of folks! Chilled on the beach in the afternoon after a 'trek' that was about as hard as a walk in the park.

Someone, somehow managed to organise 14 of us on to a longtail boat so we could tour Hong island; another tropical paradise. The weather deteriorated through the day and we got some epic views of twisters out at sea, driving past one a few hundred meters away from the boat was an experience in itself! Another first from Asia.
31/05
Our plans today werw to visit Railay, another beach place around the corner, however that fell through so we rented mopeds again! We did a monster journey covering around 100 miles and included a visit to the hotsprings a few km out of town.
01/06
Again our plans fell through today as we were supposed to leave for Kuala Lumpur but missed the bus due to ita popularity. Spent the day back Krabi town basically eating our way through boredom.
