A sea day today as we sail along the Mediterranean just south of the Italian coast. It is overcast but warm - still in shorts and T-shirts so not too bad. We did not get out of bed until 11:00 after last night. My mind very much now on the final part of our voyage. The thought of work scares me stiff after all this time, also we look forward to meeting the kids again with much information to share both ways since we left home. That is positive. We also begin to realise that when it is not really warm all day and with little wind there is not so much to do on board as the entertainment is geared to the over 70's. For example today's guest speaker is from the antique roadshow and there is a 1980's impersonator on board as well. They also do things like presentations on jewellery, usually jewellery that they are then selling, the old uns lap it up. Then there is also a choir club you get the picture. Much of this is not an issue if you can lounge on deck all day on the sun.
Today they covered in the Crystal pool area, this has a sliding roof which has been open since the day we got on board in Sydney.
On board observations; the staff mostly Malaysian and Indian could not be more polite and we could learn from Them as they always seem so happy with their lot which considering they work every day without a break for at least 6 months at a time is impressive.
A great spectacle on board is the evening procession. Set out every day in a mini newspaper called horizon is the on board entertainment. Many of the passengers read it like commandments that must be followed under pain of death. So you can watch with interest the crowd movement with the precision of a Rolex every night (and not one brought in Mumbai!!). You will see at least 200 people move from the early quiz in masquerades (21:30) , to the show in the curson theatre (22:30) they then all leave en mass to the late quiz in Champions sports bar (23:30). When that finishes they again move like a heard of willerbeast to the late night dancing in Carmen's theatre (00:15).
It is a spectacle to behold and best entertainment is to be 30 minutes ahead of the crowd that way you enjoy some peace and quiet and watch with glee the arrival and squabble for best seats.
Enough drivel for now and catch you all tomorrow.
